Most colon cancers, the standard treatment is surgery to remove the part of the colon that contains the cancer.

For certain small, early re**al cancers, the surgeon can remove the tumor with a local procedure instead of a larger operation.

In select cases, if treatment makes the cancer appear to be gone, expert centers may choose to monitor it closely rather than perform surgery right away.
