Today, our Signature family is navigating a profound loss. Our dear friend and colleague, Maritza—known affectionately to us all as Pook or Blondie—has gained her angel wings after a private, courageous battle with cancer.

To know Pook was to hear her coming—usually announced by the bass of her sound system and the sight of her convertible pulling in. She was the person who brought the "sparkle" to the office, whether it was through her ever-changing pink and blonde hair, her iconic sunglasses, or her unapologetically spunky spirit.

But beyond the style was a soul dedicated entirely to the service of others. Maritza didn’t just "treat" patients; she adopted them. She was the nurse who delivered homemade holiday meals and hand-picked gifts to those without family. When her patients faced the daunting transition to hospice, she didn't just coordinate care—she stayed by their side so they wouldn't have to feel afraid.

They say nursing can be taught, but being a "great" nurse is a calling. Maritza answered that call every single day. Our hearts are heavy, and the office feels a little too quiet today. We will miss her fiercely, but we are all better for having known her.
