True Teen Wellness

True Teen Wellness I help parents navigate teen mental health challenges using a comprehensive, holistic approach. What a celebration that was! Now I am here to help you.

Join us to learn about practical strategies, expert guidance, and resources to help your teen succeed! I know firsthand how daunting it can feel to make significant life changes, like facing what seems to be an uphill battle or leaving behind your only support system-your family. Embarking on a journey that required over a decade of schooling to achieve my dream was intimidating, to say the least. However, by taking small, manageable steps, I made my dream achievable. I apply this same approach with my patients every day, and it's truly rewarding to see their health goals become reality. From a young age I learned the values of hard work and compassion, often serving as the primary caretaker for my younger siblings and our animals. This sense of responsibility and care has stayed with me, shaping my approach to patient care today. My early experiences as a certified nursing assistant as a teenager further ignited my passion for helping others in a medical setting and solidified my aspiration to become a doctor dedicated to making a real difference in people's lives. Dr. brown is the founder and lead physician of true teen wellness clinics
My story really began the moment I left home from the Bishop Paiute Reservation with two small children to pursue a medical degree. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Nevada Las Vegas in Cell Biology and Biochemistry in 2001. In 2007, I became a Medical Doctor graduating from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine, then completing my Residency training in Family Medicine and Board Certification. As a Family Physician I have been privileged to help thousands of patients with holistic care, compassion and dignity.

TRUE TEEN TUESDAY — WEEK 6
LIMIT DOOMSCROLLING

Social media can make it feel like everyone else has it all figured out but remember, what you see online is often a highlight reel, not real life.

Constant scrolling can increase stress, anxiety, and comparison, especially for teens whose brains are still developing. Setting healthy boundaries with screen time helps protect your mental and emotional well-being.

Simple ways to reset:
• Set daily screen time limits
• Avoid checking your phone first thing in the morning or before bed
• Take breaks to get outside, move your body, or connect in real life
• Remember that everyone is fighting battles you may not see

Healthy habits with technology create space for clearer thinking, better sleep, and stronger mental health.

Week 5 of True Teen Wellness 🌅

There’s something powerful about getting up early, stepping outside, and letting the first sunlight hit your face. As a medical doctor and horse trainer, I’m lucky that my days start bright and early in the barn and in the sunshine. Morning light, fresh air, and movement simple habits that make a big difference for our health.

Teaching our teens that wellness doesn’t start in a clinic… it starts with how we begin our day. 🐎☀️

TRUE TEEN TUESDAY — WEEK 5
GET OUT. GET SUN.

Sunlight is foundational to teen health.

Natural light supports:
• Healthy sleep cycles
• Improved mood and mental clarity
• Vitamin D production
• Nervous system regulation
• Stronger immune function

10–20 minutes of morning sunlight can help reset your body for the entire day.

Step outside. Walk. Breathe. Let your body recalibrate naturally.

Small daily habits create long-term health.

🚨 Young men: build strength the right way — not the fast way.

Your body is capable of building real strength, endurance, and performance naturally. You don’t need anabolic steroids to see progress. In fact, they often disrupt hormones, mental health, and long-term physical function.

Foundations that actually support muscle growth and performance:

• Consistent resistance training
• Proper recovery and sleep
• Adequate protein intake
• Hydration and nervous system support
• Safe, evidence-based supplementation when appropriate

Supplements like branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) and L-carnitine can support muscle recovery, energy metabolism, and endurance without disrupting your natural hormone balance.

As a physician, I encourage young men to protect their hormones, brain health, and future while building strength safely and sustainably.

Movement is one of the most powerful antidepressants we have and it’s free.

Exercise supports the nervous system, improves mood, and helps regulate stress hormones naturally. It increases circulation to the brain, improves emotional resilience, and supports long-term mental health.

You don’t need intense workouts. Walking, stretching, and daily movement can significantly improve how you feel both mentally and physically.

Consistent movement helps:
• Reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression
• Improve mood and emotional balance
• Increase natural energy levels
• Improve sleep quality
• Support overall brain and nervous system health

Movement is medicine.
