Type of research: A meta-analysis of 14 randomized controlled trials with a total of over two thousand participants.

Outcome: Acupuncture reduces symptom severity and improves quality of life in individuals with IBS and “not only mitigates gastrointestinal distress but also benefits psychological and social functioning”. Benefits were sustained through eight weeks beyond treatment, all without any serious adverse effects.

Method of Action: Acupuncture modulates serotonergic signaling and HPA-axis activity to provide both gastrointestinal and neuroendocrine benefits within a single intervention.

How cool is that?! 😎📍✨

Real Time Acupuncture: Pericardium 6 (PC6)

When the sea was choppy on our Gozo Fast Ferry connecting to Malta, and given my history of motion sickness, I added some pyonex needles on this point specifically to not only calm my nerves, but also to ease my queasy stomach.

PC6 is an essential point for treating nausea or vomiting due to any etiology, including motion sickness, pregnancy, and the side-effects of radiotherapy or chemotherapy.

Pyonex needles are tiny press tacks that consistently stimulate a point for up to 5 days. They’re so small that they don’t cause any discomfort, but they sure do pack a punch!

You never know when a situation will come up where a form of acupuncture can come in clutch, even on vacation!
