Falls are the leading cause of nonfatal injuries among older adults. One out of ten falls causes a serious injury, such as a hip fracture or head injury, which requires hospitalization. In addition to the physical and emotional pain, many people need to spend at least a year recovering in a long-term care facility. Stay safe out there.

Many falls are preventable, even when winter conditions make it tough to get around.

Thank you to all of our Veterans and Caregivers of Veterans. The PCAFC is one of two CSP programs and offers caregivers of eligible Veterans a host of services, including education, support, a monthly financial stipend, and other resources. It is time we change the narrative! Geriatrician Louise Aronson is dedicated to uncovering revolutionary conclusions that will challenge our assumptions about aging and elderhood. Aging populations utilize the greatest proportion of the healthcare system, however they are given the least individualized treatment, research, or focus as a subgroup. Louise argues for a well-defined, nuanced focus on "elderhood," just as we have created around childhood and adulthood. Recognizing elderhood as a significant life stage, that is often times longer than childhood, will help us improve quality of life and health outcomes for our aging population.

When you think of "old age" what words come to mind? Louise Aronson, Elderhood Transformer, suggests that our society casts a shadow on the late years of life, from the words we use to the attention we give to aging populations.
