On February 13th, I attended Mesa Public Schools Native American Education Program’s 10th annual Warrior’s Path Conference held at Scottsdale Community College.

This conference is aimed to motivate indigenous students through several workshops rooted in cultural identity and career success. Before students were split up into groups I was given the opportunity to share some words with the students about higher education and how conferences like these help foster leadership skills. I was able to visit some of the workshops presented by Serenity Nez, who did tote designing, Manderee Jose, who did shell necklaces and bracelets, and O’odham Action News, who did a presentation about SRPMIC’s community newspaper.

I want to thank Mesa Public Schools Native American Education Program for putting on such a great conference for our indigenous youth and for inviting me to be apart of it. I had so much fun mingling with the students and hearing their excitement and questions in the presentations. Sapo!

Sekik Masik Tas Arizona! I would like to take the time to wish our beautiful state a happy 114th birthday! Arizona gained its statehood on February 14th, 1912 earning the nickname The Sweetheart State! 🩷🌵

While Arizona has had territorial connections with many tribes before statehood, today 22 federally recognized tribes call Arizona home. I hope you all have a special Valentine’s Day spending it with your loved ones. Please join in me wishing our home a very Happy Birthday! Sapo!

On February 9th I attended Alchesay High School’s Basketball Team Dinner held at Sunrise Park Lodge on the White Mountain Apache Tribe, where I was asked to provide the opening prayer and share some words of encouragement to the high school teams.

As a former basketball player myself, postseason is always a stressful time for our student athletes. It was great to be able to share some advice as well as motivating words as both the boys and girls team travel around the state of Arizona. I want to thank former Miss Indian Arizona 2023-2024 Laney Lupe for putting on such an amazing event for your student athletes as well as inviting me to be apart of it. I had such a great time having conversation with the players and hearing their excitement for their upcoming games. Sapo!

Skeg Tas everyone! On January 31st through February 1st, Miss Indian Arizona 2nd Attendant Hannah Nockideneh and myself attended the Arizona Indian Festival held at the Scottsdale Civic Plaza!

We started out the weekend by participating in the Parade Del Sol parade where we had the opportunity to meet with other tribal representives and royalty. After we completed the parade we watched the cultural exchanges going on at the main stage. It was beautiful to see different cultures from the 22 tribes being represented. We were given the opportunity to introduce ourselves and share more information on the history of the Miss Indian Arizona Association and what it means to be a tribal ambassador for the 22 federally recognized tribes in Arizona. This weekend I also had the opportunity to dance with the SRPMIC Traditional Dance Group. It was a blessing to be able to share our O’odham songs and dances with those in attendance.

We want to thank the Arizona American Indian Tourism Association for putting on a great event and for allowing us to be apart of it. It warmed my heart to see all those that attended with the intention of learning more about the tribal nations in Arizona. We would also like to thank for providing some beautiful pictures of us during the parade. Sapo!

On January 24, I attended O’odham and Piipaash Day held at the SRPMIC Community Garden & Traditional Games Field, where I was asked to provide the opening prayer.

O’odham and Piipaash Day is an annual event held in my community to celebrate our history and culture as Onk Akimel O’odham and Xalychidom Piipaash. The event consisted of department booths, traditional men and women’s games, traditional food samples, and a Cu:dk/Chiyer. It is important to celebrate our culture as it is a big part of our identity as indigenous people. These events serve as a reminder of our strength and resiliency as we continue to learn more about the ways of our people. It warmed my heart to see everyone that attended and participated in all of the activities.

I want to thank SRPMIC Community Relations Office for inviting me and giving me the opportunity to be apart of such a special event for our community. Sapo!

On January 17th I attended Day 1 of the UNITY Midyear conference held in Downtown Phoenix where I was asked to provide the opening blessing and land acknowledgement.

It was an honor to be asked to open the conference with a blessing and acknowledgement of the ancestral homelands that Phoenix resides on. I had some time to also share my previous experiences within UNITY and how the conference has helped me grow into the person I am today. Later that evening I was invited to attend the O’odham Cu:dk featuring the 4 O’odham sister tribes. The night started with different performances from the youth councils. After the beautiful performances, social dancing began where everyone was invited to participate. There was also a giveaway and to close out the night the piast began. It was amazing to see youth from all 4 sister tribes singing and dancing and sharing our O’odham himdag with others.

I want to thank for inviting me and allowing me to be apart of the conference. I had such a great time conversing with youth from across the country and sharing a bit of our culture with them. Whether it was the cu:dk, kehina, chiyer, or vaila, I hope everyone had a good time dancing, singing, and being together in the moment. Sapo!

Yá’át’ééh! This is First Attendant Chloe Eskey.

January 17th at the Chandler Multicultural Festival 🫶🏽🌍 Sialik and I had the honor of representing the Miss Indian Arizona Association and connecting with community members about our tribal nations and what it truly means to serve as cultural ambassadors.

From sharing stories and resources, to giving out books, to introducing ourselves on the main stage, this experience was a reminder of how powerful visibility, education, and cultural exchange really are.

We are always grateful to be part of spaces that celebrate unity, diversity, and community 🤍

Skeg Tas everyone! I would love to share with you 2 important events that I attended this week!

On January 12, I was invited to be a house floor guest for the Arizona 57th Legislature, Second Regular Session Opening Day. It was an honor to be invited by District 8 AZ State Representative Brian Garcia, who is a member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. I felt very blessed to be able to sit on the House floor and have the opportunity to be recognized during the session meeting. After the session adjourned I was able to stay for AZ Governor Katie Hobbs State of the State Address.

On January 14, the Miss Indian Arizona court attended Indian Nations & Tribes Legislative Day, where I was asked to provide the Pledge of Allegiance. This day is so important as it gives an opportunity for tribal leaders to discuss and highlight issues that affect our communities. It was inspiring to hear the words of several tribal leaders and their plans and hopes for the future.

I want to thank and the organizers of Indian Nations & Tribes Legislative Day for inviting me and allowing me to be apart of such important events for our tribal governments. I had such a fun time meeting other state representatives as well as tribal leaders from the 22 federally recognized Arizona tribes. Sapo!

Skeg Tas everyone! It has been quite a while and I hope you all had a fun and safe New Year! On January 3rd Miss Indian Arizona 1st attendant Chloe Eskey and myself attended the Miss Tohono O’odham Nation farewell.

It was amazing to see Miss Tohono O’odham Nation 2025-2026 A’Dream Lake’s journey in her title as she represented her community with pride, grace, and humility. The farewell showcased many performances and had several open mic sessions for those to share a few kind words. Royalty were also encouraged to share some words and songs with those in attendance. After hearing a few words from A’Dream herself there was a piast to end the night.

I want to thank for the invitation and for all the hard work and dedication you contributed towards your family and community. We enjoyed getting to know you and had such a fun time celebrating your accomplishment. Sapo!
