One of the best ways to stretch and/or pop your neck is on your back!

👇🏼Follow these steps and you may also get a good cavitation of your cervical spine!👇🏼

1. Lay on your back on the floor, a yoga mat, or firm surface

2. Place a rolled hand towel under the curve of your neck for support

3. Place your left hand (palm down) under your low back to help pull and relax your left shoulder down and away from your head

4. Use your right hand to gently pull your head towards your right shoulder (ear to shoulder motion); hold up to 20 seconds if you wish!

5. Switch your hands and repeat steps on other side

🧐So what’s the hype with taping?🧐

👇🏼This picture is of a client who had plantar fasciitis pain. After wearing our athletic Kinesio tape for just a few days, he noticed it made a difference and lowered his overall pain level. It is worth noting he didn’t change his activity status during this time either.
So the idea of taping to provide protection and reduce pain has been around for years, yet today there are numerous types of tapes and different taping methods. Which is best, and a better question is, are any of them necessary?
One type of tape is not necessarily better than the other. It all depends on the area it’s being applied, how it is being used, its intended function and the environment it will be exposed to (sweat, water, heat..etc.) Some will say taping helped them, and others who didn't mind their pain level much will perhaps say it isn't necessary!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

👍🏼It does help provide some pain relief, some tissues will be more supported, and circulation to superficial tissues is improved, but all of these are true only when it's applied and used correctly.

👉🏼It is not meant as the main way to protect from reinjuring a joint! If a joint is truly unstable, only specific strength exercises will help in the long run; in the short run, yes, taping for an athletic event can improve one’s awareness of the injury and in that way can help "protect" it. It also can reduce pain and acute inflammation. This can improve performance and is why it is still recommended to use if one must continue their sport. So many use it right after injury to quickly get back in their sport, but that says volumes more about the determination, competitiveness and perhaps ignorance of some players and coaches than the tape's ability to stop high loads and forces from further damaging the joint. The same goes for many braces out there. Never use tape or braces to increase your sense of security; that is right when re-injury is most likely to happen again.

👍🏼Use it as an additional relief, never as the primary treatment.

👍🏼It is best to seek professional advice to learn the best taping protocol.

In 2020 I wrote a post about "lunging" into the new year as the hardships of COVID had started.

The year 2021 flew by so fast, I apparently never shared my motto.

📊 Business tripled

📋 New business endeavors were created, launched, tweaked, and launched again.

🪄 Improvements to services/systems/materials were made.

🎓 Courses and certifications were completed!

🧐 Newsletters and social presence were much more infrequent and short, but for good reasons!

Since I live in CO and am also a conservative healthcare provider, I'm hesitant to say my motto for that year was really "fly high!" (If you don't get it, that's a good thing really.) 😊

This year I do want to take a pause and share:

My motto is all about ⚡️JUMPING⚡️ into the new year and into every opportunity! It's very appropriate for what all has came to fruition behind the scenes from work in 2021 and I'm so excited to share it with all of you! Thank you for your support.

No, really! This is a big reason many don't see results.

Do you think it’s interfering with your goals, desires, and dreams and if so, how do you feel about that?

If you don’t like the quality of your life and how it's directly affecting your progress, then let me be the first (or maybe 5th person) to encourage you to DO something about it!

Put that energy of worry, stress, fear, doubt, frustration to use! Our bodies signal pain in us for a REASON. It won’t help to ignore it another day.

Our client in the video below is a great example:

She came in with persistent hip pain that was only worsening with exercises (achy pain here and there-->sharp pain nearly daily) the more she tried to fix it.

There are a few things that gave her a jumpstart: She is FIT. She is motivated. She is strong. She is smart BUT, she had no reason to come in thinking she’d improve at that point.

But, she did. So what happened as a result?

She began to move in pain free ranges with exercises that SAME WEEK.

It took another week to slowly replace the more advanced exercises that were only adding to her inflammation with ones that would decrease the inflammation.

She can now do more advanced exercises without pain as well.
🙌🏼

We are working towards getting back to her high intensity workouts and running now, but this time with new routines, more self-care, and renewed confidence!
