Lily and Phil Hotaling have been married for 38 years and have 5 children ranging in age from 19 to 32 years old. We live in Parker, Co and have lived in the Denver area since 1994.
Why we started Answers for Senior Care:
In 2006, Lily’s mom, Nelly, took a fall and broke a vertebra in her lower back. Suffering from osteoporosis, this was the beginning of a 6-month battle with many twists and turns. At the same time, Lily’s dad was suffering from beginning stages of dementia making poor choices and exhibiting irrational behavior. We knew nothing about the disease nor did we have time to learn. With two parents needing help and guidance and the responsibility of children and jobs to maintain, we were a classic example of the “sandwich generation” namely, taking care of parents and children at the same time.
Our journey included educating ourselves in many areas such as legal (Power of Attorney), insurance, hospital, skilled nursing, in-home care, memory care, rehab and many other pieces.
At the time we were working through these challenges understanding the healthcare system we were raising our kids whose ages were 7, 9, 10, 18 & 20. Looking back, we wish we had a resource to turn to like Answers for Senior Care for guidance and support.
