Living Sublimely Well

Living Sublimely Well Integrating holistic modalities to help you tap into the joys of life. That's Living Sublimely Well. What was I trying to do that humid morning?

Founded by Elizabeth Scala MSN/MBA, RN, RYT200 a holistic nurse, registered yoga instructor, reiki master, and plant grower

The Backstory...
At 6:38 AM, I flew over the handlebars and crashed to the ground, my bike pinning me under it. Too many things to name! Most of my career I was a non-stop, can’t sit still, mover and shaker. A successful nurse researcher, living the dream, and then…

BAM! Everything changed. I fractured my elbow, required surgery, and developed complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). It took me close to six months to realize… there’s more to life than running the hamster wheel. With time & space for healing, I found truth in the saying, “Everything happens for a reason.”

I've left my nursing career for a healthier, happier life at Living Sublimely Well. I teach gentle yoga and qigong, providing healing modalities to the community. As a certified holistic nurse, yoga instructor, and plant grower, I help people stay accountable to the joys of living a healthy, happy life. Feel free to reach out. Homemade Tortillas

Practice makes progress.

The first time I made tortillas from scratch it was tricky. I couldn’t get the thinness right. They were a tad thick and gummy.

These tortillas are 👌

I used:
2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon of sea salt
Half a cup of water
3 tablespoons of butter at room temp

I mixed with my hands in a shallow steel bowl. Until it no longer stuck to my hands or the bowl.

I let it rest, covered, while I put away laundry, checked on the chickens, and peeked at the greenhouse.

I floured the counter, rolled the dough into a log, and cut it into eight (approximately) equal pieces.

I used my cast iron skillet. My electric oven was on 3-5 the whole time.

Working one by one, I flattened the individual ball with my palm, pressed it flatter in the center, and then rolled them out.

I cooked the dough, while rolling the next one, keeping my eye on it and turning them every so often.

There ya go- homemade tortillas 😋

What’s a comfort food or dessert you treat yourself to?

HAVING FUN

This week our classes are focused on having fun, as a way to nourish ourselves.

While we usually end the practice rolling side to side on our backs with knees hugged towards the chest… tonight we rolled up and down the length of our spine, like we were swinging.

So fun. So playful. So innocent. So simple.

Try to be less serious towards yourself. Laugh at yourself. Enjoy yourself- good, bad, and in between.

Keep on swinging… or, doing whatever you LOVED doing as a kid 💚❤️💜

What did you enjoy as a kid? How about as an adult? What’s the latest time you had an amazing amount of FUN??

Cardinal Flowers!

So, I had these small Cardinal Flowers I grew from seed late last year. They were too small to sell, too small to plant into the landscape.

I put them all into this grow bag in November, and voila!! They made it through the bitter cold winter, covered in snow/ice.

Perennials are some of the best plants!

I can’t wait to watch these beauties grow ❤️

HAVE FUN

This week, in our Nurturing Ourselves program, we’re focusing on one of my favorite things…

Having Fun

Sometimes, as adults, we lose touch with fun.

Being so focused on work, busy raising kids, or just plain trying to get through life adulting- sometimes we forget to enjoy ourselves. Or, what we enjoy. Or, how to have fun.

One way to figure out what you enjoy (if for any reason, you forgot)- one way to find your joy is to look towards your childhood.

What did you lose track of time doing? What did your parents/caretakers have to draaaagg you away from? What would you play ALL THE TIME as a kid?

Think about this to find insights into what you might enjoy here and now.

For example, I LOVED cutting grass as a kid. So much so, I even took pictures, lol.

Well, now, it’s no wonder I LOVE being outside doing anything at all. I’d rather be outside than anywhere else!

So- what about you? What did you enjoy as a kid? Does that give you thoughts about what you may enjoy as an adult?

Wishing you a moment of contentment 💜

The simple joys bring tears to my eyes.

I’ve never made an English muffin before. And I can tell you after one batch, I’m hooked.

Paired it with some homemade egg salad and my belly is happy.

Nothing crazy. Not difficult. Isn’t fancy. But it’s mine. And I made it all.

I’m here to tell you- just get started. Do one simple thing. Take one small step. With each new endeavor, you’ll be building a whole healthy way of living.

Trust me- you wouldn’t even recognize the today-me just five years ago. It’s amazing how much we can accomplish- if we just keep trying.

Do your best. Make mistakes. Have fun.

THIS!!!!

Modification isn’t a consolation prize — it’s a smart choice.

Less strain keeps the nervous system steady.
More balance helps the body organize.
Better alignment supports the joints.
Safer range allows real progress.

Advanced practice isn’t the hardest version.
It’s the version that builds strength without borrowing from tomorrow. 🌿
