Living Sublimely Well

Living Sublimely Well Integrating holistic modalities to help you tap into the joys of life. That's Living Sublimely Well. What was I trying to do that humid morning?

Founded by Elizabeth Scala MSN/MBA, RN, RYT200 a holistic nurse, registered yoga instructor, reiki master, and plant grower

The Backstory...
At 6:38 AM, I flew over the handlebars and crashed to the ground, my bike pinning me under it. Too many things to name! Most of my career I was a non-stop, can’t sit still, mover and shaker. A successful nurse researcher, living the dream, and then…

BAM! Everything changed. I fractured my elbow, required surgery, and developed complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). It took me close to six months to realize… there’s more to life than running the hamster wheel. With time & space for healing, I found truth in the saying, “Everything happens for a reason.”

I've left my nursing career for a healthier, happier life at Living Sublimely Well. I teach gentle yoga and qigong, providing healing modalities to the community. As a certified holistic nurse, yoga instructor, and plant grower, I help people stay accountable to the joys of living a healthy, happy life. Feel free to reach out. WINTER SOWN

Let’s see an update on our winter sown seeds.

We sowed the seeds on December 31, 2025. They’ve been sitting out in the bags all winter long.

The bags endured heavy snow and ice cover the entire month of January and most of February.

We’ve unzipped the bags most of the way, at this point, to allow airflow and precipitation. They’re still sitting in full morning/midday sun, facing east/southeast.

We’re located in Parkton, MD which is considered zone 7a, although we do run on the chilly side because our property is on a creek, in a hollow.

We’re seeing lots of activity in our winter sown seeds! Blue and red lobelia (aka, Cardinal Flower), echinacea (aka, Coneflower), Boneset, Rudbeckia (aka, Black-eyed Susan), Mountain Mint, New York Ironweed, Turtlehead, Milkweed, Verbena, Swamp Sunflower, Balloon Flower, Poppy, and Iris.

So excited for these perennials to grow!

Here’s a gardening tip.

If you’re starting seeds in cell trays (or any containers, really), you want to press the soil down before sowing the seeds.

This is because you don’t want any air pockets in your soil blocks.

It also makes it much easier when you’re pulling the seedling plug out of its cell. If you have loose soil, when you go to pull out the seedling, the soil will crumble leaving you with dangling, exposed roots.

Pressing the soil lightly before sowing your seeds will make for happier, healthier plants in the long run.
