Living Sublimely Well

Living Sublimely Well Integrating holistic modalities to help you tap into the joys of life. That's Living Sublimely Well. What was I trying to do that humid morning?

Founded by Elizabeth Scala MSN/MBA, RN, RYT200 a holistic nurse, registered yoga instructor, reiki master, and plant grower

The Backstory...
At 6:38 AM, I flew over the handlebars and crashed to the ground, my bike pinning me under it. Too many things to name! Most of my career I was a non-stop, can’t sit still, mover and shaker. A successful nurse researcher, living the dream, and then…

BAM! Everything changed. I fractured my elbow, required surgery, and developed complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). It took me close to six months to realize… there’s more to life than running the hamster wheel. With time & space for healing, I found truth in the saying, “Everything happens for a reason.”

I've left my nursing career for a healthier, happier life at Living Sublimely Well. I teach gentle yoga and qigong, providing healing modalities to the community. As a certified holistic nurse, yoga instructor, and plant grower, I help people stay accountable to the joys of living a healthy, happy life. Feel free to reach out. Last week, for like three days, the tips of my toes were bothering me. I’m talking about the very, very tips.

They almost felt calloused, or numb, if that makes any sense.

So far, I don’t have any issues with neuropathy that I’m aware of. So I was like, “What’s going on here with my toes?”

Rather than rushing off immediately to someone else, I decided to observe myself and see if I could figure it out.

Of course you’re probably not aware, but at night I like to be barefoot. I wear heavy socks and (mostly) boots all day. If not boots, heavy work shoes.

So by nighttime, I like to give my feet a break. And I don’t like wearing socks. I like my feet to breathe.

Well, I noticed something… I was walking around my house on my TIPPY TIPPY TOES!! That’s right- I was like on the edge of my toes, almost like a ballerina when she goes up on point.

I noticed that and made a change. I have been mindful, since I became aware of it, to walk on the fullness of my feet when I’m walking around barefoot.

Guess what??

No more toe pain!!

It’s gone.

So, why am I telling you all this? Just to point out another aspect of yoga.

Yoga supports our ability to be aware. Aware of the moment. Aware of the body. Aware of the self and experience.

When we’re aware, we can make positive improvements. We can change things. We can help ourselves.

If we’re wandering around in a distracted fog, then we can’t change things for the better for ourselves.

It’s totally empowering to be aware of what’s happening and be able to make decisions that change things for the better.

Have you ever had an experience like this? Would love to hear about it!!

Ahhhh, I see some new ones we can add to our wall repertoire. ✅

Ahhhh, I see some new ones we can add to our wall repertoire. ✅

In the Northern Hemisphere, we’re deep in the season of long nights and short days—a time that naturally invites stillness and turning inward.

This wall-supported Yin Yoga sequence meets you there, offering space for inner listening and gentle release. With the wall as your anchor, each shape supports the softening of deeply held tension in the hips, spine, and nervous system.

Pro Tip: Complete your practice with a savasana of your choice for a fuller sense of integration and release.

Let this be your invitation to slow down.

Oh my, missing my yogis today… some of our classmates LOVE to practice this pose!!

Eagle Pose, or Garudāsana, is a powerful yoga posture that challenges your balance, flexibility, and focus. By wrapping your arms and legs around each other, you create a deep stretch in your shoulders, upper back, and legs, while also engaging your core for stability. This pose helps improve your concentration, focus, and coordination, promoting overall body strength.

If you’re just starting with this pose, remember to keep your gaze steady and fix your concentration on a point in front of you. Balance can take time, so don’t rush—start by pressing your palms together and slowly build up your flexibility with each practice.

This pose not only strengthens the body but also has mental benefits, helping you focus while fostering calmness and relaxation. With regular practice, you’ll feel more grounded and centered. 🦅🧘‍♀️

Happy winter solstice. Happy first day of winter.

May you let go of what no longer serves you, no longer belongs, no longer energizes you or lights you up.

May you find rest, peace. May you take this time to reflect and go within.

Enjoy the darkness. Enjoy the quiet. Enjoy the stillness.

May you be happy. May you feel healthy. May you experience peace. May you let go, releasing unnecessary suffering.

Took a trip down memory lane today… drove past the place where I took yoga classes 13 years ago.

Tom and Debbie Trafton are great people.

I remember when Tom said I should become a yoga teacher and I laughed at him. You never know where life will take you.

If you’re close to the Cheni Center in Fallston, I highly recommend their classes!

🌿 Body Appreciation Check 🌿

Yoga teaches us to listen instead of judge, to thank the body instead of fighting it. Every pose is an invitation to appreciate what your body can do — not what it looks like. Your body is not the enemy; it’s your lifelong partner in healing. 🧘‍♀️💛

👉 Right now, what’s one part of your body you’re grateful for — and why?
