Touch Starvation is a real problem.
Touch is necessary to thrive. When you don't get enough physical touch, you can become stressed, anxious, or depressed. It can also trigger PTSD. As a response to stress, your body's cortisol levels increase. This can cause your heart rate, blood pressure, muscle tension, and breathing rate to go up, with bad effects for your immune and digestive systems. These feelings of disconnection are often even more heightened during the holidays.
Also, I know there are people who are nuero-divergent who are uncomfortable being touched but even their bodies' have these same mechanisms which can make things even more difficult for people who do not like touch...
We live in a time where people are becoming more and more disconnected. People are more and more replacing human connection with artificial sources. One of the great ironies of "social" media is it is making us less and less sociable.
There are so many signs of touch deprivation all around us and it is physically, psychologically, emotionally and societally detrimental.
Whatever the reason might be for you, if you feel touch starved please make an appointment with me. If not me then find someone.
No judgment, no need for excuses, no shame. Give yourself permission to experience caring compassionate touch. You need it to thrive.
