Double trouble today! Joining me on my massage journey is my husband, farrier and trainer!
I love working together, sharing a journey, sharing a story.....helping horse and human come together in harmony :)

Currently snowing, but we are going to ignore that like the Michiganders we are!

After we massage, we stretch! Pal is an old dab hand at stretching, as you can see in the first picture. The second picture he is probably asking me why I'm coming so slow with his treats!

Pal is a bit of a cookie monster, so when he hears the cookie box, he is ready. But I don't recommend stretching on the wall. Have the rope loose in your hand, or if you can trust your horse, drop it on the ground in front of them, to ensure a full stretch effort!

Effluerage. What is it and what does it do?

Effluerage is a technique used to relax. It is an opening and closing movement and can be used as a general, soft, all over massage for your horse. This can be used daily.

I use this movement to feel, and introduce. I introduce myself, then I start with Effluerage. As I move along the neck, I am constantly asking you're horse about pain, pressure, and asking permission to work on them.
This is a calming move for the horse as well. Once they know you care and are there to help them, they settle in for their 'spa' treatment :)

How can you're horse respond after a massage?

One of the ways you're horse could respond is soreness.
Massage is, in a way, a form of exercise. When I, or whomever, massages you're horse, we are manipulating soft tissues of the body. In this, we are releasing muscles that are tight, stuck, or being overworked if you're horse is compensating for a hidden injury.

You're horse should not be sore more then 24 hours after the massage. If soreness persists, there is a deeper problem and it's best to call a vet to find the underlying cause.

How do you know if you're horse needs a massage?

Are their any significant changes to the rhythm of his gait? Is he stiff? Is he suddenly blowing lead changes or kinda ornery?

Chances are, he would benefit from a massage!

Wondering if you should do Chiropractic work first?

Actually, and this is the same with us humans, once our muscles are loosened up with massage, it will make the chiropractor's work easier, and you're bones stay in place better and longer!

Message me to get you're buddy feeling great!
