Who better to educate the community on Alcohol Awareness than our very own Amber Gump, Psychologist? 🍻
In recognition of Alcohol Awareness Month, we’re breaking down what moderate vs. heavy alcohol use looks like and when it may be time to seek support.
Q: What is moderate alcohol use?
Amber: Drinking in moderation means limiting alcohol intake to two drinks or less per day for men and one drink or less per day for women.
Q: What is heavy alcohol use?
Amber: The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) defines heavy alcohol use as four or more drinks in a day for men and three or more drinks in a day for women. Binge drinking is defined as consuming five or more drinks for men and four or more drinks for women within about two hours.
Q: When should you seek help?
Amber: If alcohol is becoming a way to cope with stress, anxiety, or depression, it may be time to reach out. We offer therapy, medication-assisted treatment, and other support options to help you build healthier coping strategies.
We’re here to support you every step of the way.
