In recognition of National Sleep Week, we’re shining a light on the importance of healthy sleep and what can happen when it’s disrupted.

Left untreated, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cognitive decline. In a recent feature from Everyday Health, Huntington pulmonary critical care and sleep medicine specialist Raj Dasgupta, MD, explains how repeated breathing interruptions during sleep apnea create nightly physiological stress on the body.

Read more about the connection between sleep apnea, heart health, and diabetes.

In addition to affecting your sleep, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) poses risks to your heart, metabolic health, and brain function if untreated.

For Lauren and Hunter Ploch of La Crescenta, Huntington isn’t just a hospital; it’s part of their family’s story.

“Huntington has been part of our boys’ lives since the very beginning, and part of ours as parents, too. That kind of trust is rare and worth protecting. We’re so proud to do our part in making sure Huntington will always be here for families like ours.”

From those first unforgettable moments of parenthood to the milestones that follow, the Ploch family’s journey is woven into the fabric of Huntington’s legacy. Their generosity reflects what Founders Day is all about: honoring the care that shaped us and investing in the care that will serve the next generation.

Our Story

In February of 1892, a group of prominent local citizens decided that their community would best be served by a local medical facility. They formed the Pasadena Hospital Association and, several years later, a nonprofit hospital was opened for service. In 1900, a committee was appointed to raise funds to build and endow a permanent hospital building. The committees task was made much simpler when Mrs. Caroline Walkley, a local resident, donated a plot of land on which to build the proposed facility. Two years later, at a cost of $21,000, the 26-bed Pasadena Hospital opened on the present site of Huntington Hospital. The Great Depression of the late 1920s and early 1930s closed down many hospitals and other businesses across the country. Pasadena Hospital, too, faced an uncertain future. But in 1936, a $2 million gift from the estate of Henry E. Huntington allowed the hospital not only to survive, but to thrive. The funds were used to build a new main building, clear all hospital debts, and provide service and parking facilities. In addition, the Huntington Trust was established and today continues to support the hospital's vital work. Huntington Hospital’s official page is intended to support the mission and values of the hospital, provide information and news related to the hospital and create a forum for dialogue and interaction among its followers.
