For the past 22 years, it was an honor for the Institute for Girls’ Development to serve Pasadena and the surrounding areas. We were deeply grateful for the trust you placed in us and for the opportunity to support local children, teens, and families through important moments of growth and development.

After thoughtful consideration, our team has transitioned into new practices in the Pasadena area that allow us to provide an expanded range of mental health services while maintaining our mission and values.

Current clients have received information directly from their therapist about how to stay in touch. Additional contact info is also provided below.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your families and your stories for the past two decades. We are honored to have served this community, and we look forward to continuing to support families in new ways in the years ahead.

With gratitude,
Dr. Melissa Johnson and The Institute Team

Sign up through the link in our bio for Stand Up! Speak Out! Summer Camp for rising 3rd–5th graders at Descanso Gardens! ☀️💐

Here’s a look back at last year’s second session, where campers built skills to maintain positive friendships, communicate effectively, feel their best, and approach challenges with confidence.

Camp activities included performing skits in the amphitheater, creative projects, games, planting succulents, riding the train, scavenger hunts, and exploring Descanso’s beautiful paths and waterfalls.

We can’t wait to be back at Descanso Gardens again this summer! ☺️

Dr. Ashlee Reid, our Director of Early Childhood and Maternal Mental Health, is on a mission to help kids feel calmer and more confident at the doctor’s office—one playful step at a time! 🧸💕

She’s created special pediatric care kits filled with toys, games, and a fun “Teddy Bear Hospital” set, which is an internationally recognized way to help children build confidence and reduce anxiety through pretend play during their visits. Each kit is designed to turn a doctor’s visit into a more positive, engaging experience, and to offer parents simple ways to support their children.
