- Keep in mind that the foundation of well-being, how all humans can be their best selves, is when we have enough food and rest. Almost all behavior intervention plans will begin with a predictable and reliable feeding and sleep routine.
- One way to Increase Prediction is by creating a visual schedule. A visual schedule helps your child know what the day ahead holds for them. Start by placing in the anchors of the day (meals and sleep) and then have your child help you fill in the rest of the day's activities.
- Reduce overwhelm by eliminating too many choices. Streamline your child's play space by having 5 - 8 toys displayed. Created a 3-week rotation of toys to keep it novel and fun. An added bonus is clean-up is a lot faster and easier!
- Upskill communicating with your child. Listening is developmental too! Start to shift from commands to asking open-ended questions that provoke critical thinking
Instead of “Put on your shoes.” say “What do we need to do next to get ready to go to the playground?

Knowing the difference between a meltdown and a tantrum can mean knowing just how to solve the issue!

In addition to where the response is rooted from, the difference between the two can be vast!

In a meltdown, you may see varied behaviors that may cause your child to withdraw, shutdown, OR throw a tantrum! Typically, a meltdown does NOT stop, even if the situation is resolved.

In the case of a tantrum, you may see disruptive behavior that may cause harm to self, harm to others, or damage to property. Comparatively, a tantrum MAY stop if the situation gets resolved.

Stay tuned for more info on meltdowns and tantrums!

Check-out our Fall schedule for our on-line Parent Ed. classes at: pasadena.edu/cec Classes begin August 24 and run through mid. December

Parent’s or caregivers attend with their little ones from the comfort of their homes using Conferzoom. Our online classes feature a scheduled weekly session where parents engage in child-friendly interactive activities along with their child/children and other families online. Each session has a singing/story time followed by the sharing of children's arts and crafts projects, activities and ideas (depending on age of children).

During each class session a parent education topic is discussed, related to child care or development and is often connected with assignments and articles to read on-line before class. Parents also share resources and have a chance to network with other parents or caregivers.
We hope to see you and your little ones on "conferzoom."
