Many people don’t realize that:

- Leaking even “just a little” isn’t normal
- Pain during s*x can be treated
- Constipation is often a pelvic floor issue
- Postpartum care isn’t just for the first 6 weeks
- Men need pelvic floor PT too

If you checked even ONE box in the list, it’s time to book an appointment with a Pelvic Floor PT.

🌿 Addressing symptoms now prevents them from getting worse. And getting proper care means you don’t have to spend years suffering through something that’s actually treatable.

If you’re feeling emotionally exhausted…

Financial stress. Family dynamics.
The quiet exhaustion of holding it together when you’re running low.

We often talk about how stress shows up in the shoulders or jaw.

What’s less discussed is that your pelvic floor responds to stress too.

👉🏻 When your nervous system stays in a fight-or-flight state, whether from emotional strain, ongoing worry, or simply a very full season of life, your pelvic floor muscles can tense and hold on, just like any other muscle group.

Over time, that tension may show up as:
• Pelvic pain or discomfort
• Pain with intimacy
• Difficulty fully emptying the bladder or bowels
• A sensation of heaviness or pressure
• Urgency or frequency that feels worse during stressful periods

👉🏻 This isn’t your body failing you. It’s your body trying to protect you.

The challenge is that muscles meant to move and respond can’t do their job well when they stay tense for too long.

A few gentle ways to support your body:
🌿 Start with your breath.
Slow, diaphragmatic breathing signals safety to your nervous system. Try inhaling through your nose for 4 counts, exhaling through your mouth for 6. Even a couple of minutes can help.

🌿 Notice without judgment.
Throughout the day, bring awareness to your pelvic floor. Can you soften slightly? Release just a little?

🌿 Choose calming movement.
Walking, gentle stretching, or restorative movement can help release stored tension and support regulation.

💬 When to reach out for support:
If you’re experiencing persistent pain, changes in bladder or bowel function, or symptoms that aren’t improving, working with a pelvic floor physical therapist can be incredibly helpful.
This is what we’re trained to assess and support.

Your body has carried you through a lot. It’s okay to offer it a little extra care right now. 🤍

I’ve been noticing a pattern with my patients during the cold season.

More tension. More urgency. More discomfort.

And when we start connecting the dots, it often leads back to one thing: POSTURE.

When it’s cold, our bodies instinctively curl inward.
We hunch over phones, tense our shoulders against the wind, and breathe shallow breaths into the chest instead of the belly.

This response is completely natural, it’s your body trying to protect itself.

But over time, it can place extra strain on your pelvic floor.

Here’s why:
👉🏼Your diaphragm and pelvic floor are designed to move together.

👉🏼When you inhale, the diaphragm descends and the pelvic floor gently lengthens.

👉🏼When you exhale, everything recoils and supports you again. It’s a coordinated, supportive rhythm.

When posture collapses and breathing stays shallow, that rhythm gets disrupted.

Pressure builds, movement becomes restricted, and symptoms can show up in ways that feel confusing or unexpected.

The encouraging part? 🌿
Small, consistent shifts in how you breathe and hold your body can make a meaningful difference.

Can we gently reframe New Year movement goals for a moment? 🤍

Every January, we’re surrounded by messages encouraging us to push harder, move faster, or the “go hard or go home” mentality.

But for many bodies, especially postpartum, post-injury, or navigating pelvic floor symptoms, that approach can do more harm than good.

When movement outpaces support, it can lead to:

👉🏻 Increased pelvic pressure
👉🏻 Urinary leakage during exercise
👉🏻 Pelvic pain or discomfort
👉🏻 Slower overall healing

Here’s what sustainable movement looks like instead:

🌿 Start where you are NOT where you think you SHOULD be.
Your body just survived the holidays, maybe pregnancy, maybe surgery, maybe life. Honor that.

🌿 Build your foundation first.
Core and pelvic floor connection come before intensity, impact, or heavy loading.

🌿 Progress gradually.
Pain, leaking, or heaviness aren’t things to push through. They’re cues to adjust, modify, or slow down.

✨ If there’s one intention to carry into this year, let it be this: Choose movement that supports your body’s healing, not movement that rushes it.

If you’re committing to more sustainable movement in 2026, leave a 💪🏻 below.

🤍 Save this for later! Your body will thank you!

💬 If you have questions about what sustainable movement looks like for you, you’re welcome to message me.

What to expect at your first Physical Therapy evaluation 🌿

We start with connection—listening to your story, your concerns, and your goals.

Your first visit may include:
• Postural assessment
• Range of motion + mobility testing
• Strength + movement analysis
• Breathing + abdominal mobility

👉 This is for a general PT evaluation.
Pelvic floor evaluations are different and may include a gentle pelvic exam (with consent) — we’ll go into that in another post.

Together, we create a plan that’s right for you ✨

I think it’s time for another introduction 😉🤍

Hey, I’m Dr. Anthea — your Physical Therapist and Pelvic floor specialist 🙌🏽
According to my clients, I’m the kind of therapist who makes it easy to talk about anything (yes, even the awkward stuff) and feel comfortable while you heal.

It’s been a wild, beautiful, challenging, and rewarding time — and honestly, I’m so proud of how far it’s come. I didn’t really know I was capable of stepping out into my own this way, let alone having the opportunity to be the expert that so many people choose to help move better, feel stronger, and reconnect with and understand their bodies (but here we are 💪🏽).

I’m a Doctor of Physical Therapy with 8 years in orthopedics and 4 years specializing in pelvic floor care — from prenatal to postnatal, orthopedic to overall wellness. My mission? To make care personal, empowering, and focused on treating the whole person — not just the symptoms.

In sessions, expect a mix of education, empowerment, and laughs — because healing doesn’t have to be boring. (And yes… my pelvic model is always ready for a demo 😂)

Outside of the clinic, I’m all about staying active, going to concerts, watching movies, reality TV (love island fan here!) and trying new things. My newest obsession is finding art galleries and exhibits to explore. I’m a proud Caribbean 🇹🇹, a lover of music (even some country😬) and a classic Virgo — I’ve perfected the art of overthinking, organizing, sarcasm and trying my best to stay grounded through it all ♍️ still working on controlling my bluntness but it’s a work in progress 😂 When it matters most, I’m dependable, trustworthy and I want the absolute best for you.

So far, it has been about growth, gratitude, and learning to truly live in the moment — something that’s challenged me in all the best ways.

Let’s keep elevating your well-being together 🌿💫

Back pain isn’t always about “tight muscles” or posture. Sometimes the root cause lies deeper — in your pelvic floor.

When these muscles aren’t working as they should, your spine doesn’t get the support it needs… and the pain just keeps coming back.

✨ Of course, back pain can also come from orthopedic causes and often it’s a mix of both. That’s why a thorough assessment makes all the difference.

You don’t have to just live with it. Relief is possible when the root cause is understood.

If any of this sounds familiar, feel free to send me a message!

🔖 Save this post so you have it when you need it, and share with a friend who’s always saying “my back hurts.”
