Founded more than 65 years ago by a small group of Quaker families, Pacific Oaks College is dedicated to the fundamental Quaker principles of inclusion, social justice, and the valuing of every human being. The institution is known and recognized for its pioneering efforts to reduce bias within our nation's education system, and for equipping graduates with the skills they need to help people from diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and strengths uncover and realize their unique individual potentials. Pacific Oaks is known for its progressive approach to learning—valuing real-world experiences as well as academic achievements. This philosophy is embodied through opportunities such as the Credit for Life Experience option, which allows students to gain academic credit for real-world experience acquired in the workplace. Students may earn up to 24 credits in this manner—credits which can be applied toward a bachelor's degree and count toward application for an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy or Human Development. Three basic concepts underlie the educational philosophy at Pacific Oaks:
•that every individual has a fundamental worth;
•that growth is a dynamic and life-long process;
•and that every individual has a unique identity and human potential. Pacific Oaks is accredited by the WASC Senior Colleges and Universities Commission (WSCUC), and has been since 1959.

The Power of Community means professors with open doors and open minds.🌱

Veronica Estrada, Ed.D., faculty in Pacific Oaks’ School of Human Development, doesn’t just say she cares about her students, she takes the time to understand each individuals’ background, academic goals, and insecurities.

Years ago she decided to help students visualize their future success in a truly unique way. She brought to class the doctoral robe she had worn at her own graduation and asked her students, specifically some that seemed to be struggling, to put it on and describe how they felt.

Today, putting on Dr. Estrada’s doctoral robe has become somewhat of a tradition for Pacific Oaks’ students, as word-of-mouth keeps the tradition alive from one semester to the next.

Rebuilding isn't just about building structures. It's about futures. 💚🌿

The LA Times featured Pacific Oaks College in their story on how Altadena is reimagining childcare in the wake of devastating fires—and we're honored to be part of this critical work.

Nearly $2 million in grants from Pacific Oaks and our partners has helped 43 childcare providers reopen, replace materials, pay staff, and keep families enrolled through tuition support. Because when childcare centers close, it's not just the educators who lose, but working families who depend on safe and stable care for their children.
