With all sorts of holidays coming up, a special one coming soon —February 17th—is Lunar New Year — Tết — and the many beautiful variations celebrated across cultures.
The Lunar zodiac begins with a story — a race across a river, twelve animals, and lessons about character that still echo today.
According to legend, the Jade Emperor invited the animals to race. The order they finished would determine their place in the zodiac.
The Rat, small but clever, rode on the Ox’s back and leapt ahead at the finish line to claim first place.
The Ox followed in second.
The Tiger powered through the current.
The Rabbit crossed with agility and wit.
The Dragon paused mid-race to help others before finishing.
Each animal arrived in its own way — earning its place through intelligence, strength, compassion, or perseverance.
But for me, this isn’t just folklore.
It’s culture.
It’s ancestry.
It’s connection.
Sharing this now feels especially important. We live in a time where understanding one another’s traditions isn’t optional — it’s necessary.
So this is my small way of opening the door —
to stories,
to symbolism,
to deeper understanding.
May we always stay curious about where each other comes from. 🧧✨
