Healthgrades Names St. Mary’s General Hospital a 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ Recipient

St. Mary’s General Hospital, a member of Prime Healthcare, has achieved the 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ from Healthgrades, the #1 site Americans use to find a doctor or hospital. This award reflects St. Mary’s General’s commitment to safe, patient-centered care and puts the facility in the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for patient safety. St. Mary’s General is one of only 14 hospitals in New Jersey to receive this distinction.

St. Mary’s General’s achievement is based solely on what matters most: patient outcomes. To determine the national leaders in patient safety, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted complication and mortality rates from approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide across 13 patient safety indicators. Patients treated at St. Mary’s General had a profoundly lower risk of experiencing these leading complications:

● In-hospital fall resulting in fracture
● Collapsed lung due to a procedure in or around the chest
● Catheter-related bloodstream infections acquired in the hospital
● Pressure sores or bed sores acquired in the hospital

Last night, our Graduate Medical Education residents hosted a beautiful Ramadan Iftar Celebration in the hospital cafeteria, welcoming nearly 100 guests for a special evening of community and reflection.
Ramadan is a holy month observed by Muslims worldwide, marked by fasting from sunrise to sunset. Iftar is the joyful meal shared at dusk to break the fast—often a time for gratitude, togetherness, and cultural tradition.
Guests enjoyed a delicious spread of traditional foods including dates, lentil soup, rice dishes, grilled meats, samosas, salads, and sweet desserts. The night was filled with warmth, conversation, and connection.
Thank you to our residents and everyone who helped make this meaningful celebration possible.

Closing out Heart Month with our incredible Cardiac Catheterization Lab team — experts on the front lines of diagnosing and treating heart disease with state‑of‑the‑art imaging and interventional care. Their work is a vital part of St. Mary’s nationally recognized comprehensive cardiac program, which also includes advanced cardiac surgery and cardiac services — a service line that pioneered the first successful open‑heart surgery in New Jersey and continues to lead the region in lifesaving heart care.

Prescription required for screening. Once prescription is secured, make your appointment by calling our Radiology & Imaging Center at 973-365-4450. Promotional fee of $49 payment must be made day of appointment, and will be offered for all CT Calcium Scoring Scans during the month of February 2026.

Last week Passaic City Mayor Hector C. Lora led a special ribbon cutting ceremony announcing the opening of our new Women’s Health Center, a dedicated women’s healthcare facility designed to expand access to essential services for residents and families across the community.
Located at 110 Passaic Avenue, the center is operated by St. Mary’s General Medical Group and offers OB/GYN services, wellness exams, menopause management and access to advanced diagnostic and imaging care.
Mayor Lora, who was joined by Hospital leadership, trustees, medical staff, and community partners, emphasized the importance of strengthening healthcare resources in Passaic.
“This new Women’s Health Center represents an important investment in the health and well-being of women and families in Passaic,” said Mayor Hector Carlos Lora. “Access to healthcare is essential to building a stronger and healthier city, and we are proud to welcome the continued presence and dedication of St. Mary’s General Hospital."
The facility complements St. Mary’s General Hospital’s long-standing work in maternal health, surgical care, and women’s imaging and breast health services, and reflects a broader effort to bring specialized healthcare closer to residents.
St. Mary’s also recognized the outstanding team of board-certified OB/GYN specialists who will be leading care at the new center:
• Dr. Shahrokh Ahkami, a highly respected OB/GYN, based in Passaic for over 50 years, with extensive experience in obstetrics and preventive women’s healthcare
• Dr. Mahipa Pallimulla, known for his work in surgical obstetric care and patient-centered gynecology.
• Dr. Sneha Praikh, specializing in family medicine, offering a unique blend of comprehensive primary care and high-acuity surgical obstetrics.
• Dr. Vinay Shah, a seasoned clinician with a focus on high risk obstetrics, long-term women’s health management and pelvic reconstruction.
• Dr. Ratnma Jain, dedicated to minimally invasive gynecological procedures across the full spectrum of women’s health needs.

“The opening of this center reflects St. Mary’s continued commitment to expanding community health resources and ensuring every woman has access to compassionate, high quality care,” said hospital CEO Edward J. Condit.
