COVID-19 Vaccination Update for Adults 65+

Severe outcomes from COVID-19 infection remain a serious risk for adults aged 65 years and older.

As we age, our immune systems naturally weaken, increasing vulnerability to infection, hospitalization, and complications. In fact, older adults remain at the highest risk for COVID-19–related hospitalization and death among adult age groups.

The CDC now recommends that adults 65 years and older receive a second dose of the 2025–2026 COVID-19 vaccine, spaced 6 months apart, based on shared clinical decision-making.

Why this matters:
• A second dose may help strengthen protection against severe outcomes
• Many patients assume they are fully protected after one dose
• During the 2023–2024 season, only 8.9% of adults 65+ received a second dose

Your health decisions matter. If you or a loved one is 65 or older, speak with our pharmacy team about whether a second COVID-19 vaccine dose is appropriate.
