โFarm to Fitnessโ Active Aging Week was one for the books! The Lakes at Litchfield proudly participated in Active Aging Week to show how The Weller Life allows our Members to defy the stereotypes associated with aging. ๐
We kicked off the week at Thompson Family Farm and Nursery. We were warmly welcomed by the owners and treated to a full day of fun, hands-on farm activities! We had so much fun as we climbed and conquered the giant slide. Then, we hopped aboard a big blue tractor-pulled wagon for a thrilling hayride, where we waved hello to buffalo, longhorns, and a young steer! Next, we went back in time to the 1800s for an old-fashioned water pump contest. After that, we met the friendliest goats and pot-bellied pigs. ๐ท At the Education Station, we dove into some local history and talked about our environment. Our group even had fun getting lost in the corn maze together. After a few games of Tic Tac Toe, tire balancing, and a bit of produce shopping, it was time to say goodbye. ๐
On day one, Members enjoyed a refreshing walk along the shore. They collected tons of seashells while stretching those legs and taking in some fresh air. ๐๏ธ When they returned to the community, they attended our Active Aging Health Fair. It was wonderful to hear from some of our community partners like Broad River Rehab, Tidelands, and Hearing Life.
On day two, Members hopped aboard a fishing excursion with Carolina Fishing Guides Service! Our early risers met at 6:15 a.m. and were on the water by 7:15 am, catching the biggest fish and even a stingray weโve ever seen! ๐ฃ Look at Member Frank and his beautiful redfish! Back at the community, our guest Lisa hosted a Farm Fresh Fitness wellness class! With rhythm eggs in hand, the Lisaโs fitness group โshook it up,โ combining music, movement, and laughter.
On day three, we took a trip to the Backwoods Quail Club! Under the expert guidance of Dave, Members had so much fun learning how to shoot flying clay targets. We all hit at least oneโฆ what an exciting experience!
Day four began with our annual kayaking trip! โต๏ธ Joined by our friends at our sister community, Brightwater, Members had a blast getting active in the river courtesy of Myrtle Beach Paddle Board & Kayak Adventures. Kayaking serves as an excellent cardiovascular workout, and the beautiful natural scenery was a bonus! We ended our journey with lunch at McAlisterโs Deli, and boy, was it delicious.
On day five, we wrapped up our Active Aging celebration with an In the Pink Community Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness. What a great way to show our support for survivors and those who are currently battling the disease. After the walk, participants enjoyed light snacks, a bit of bubbly, and received butterfly pins and pink ribbon armbands. After the walk, Members threw on their best country fashion to celebrate our last Signature Experience of the year. They had such a blast singing and dancing along to the sounds of the live country band with their friends. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our programming team for making this such a memorable week filled with new experiences and lasting memories! We canโt wait to see what Active Aging Week 2026 has in store for us! ๐คธโโ๏ธ
