Fur Real Dental Trivia: Let’s Chew on This!

What popular toy for dogs is actually harmful to their teeth?

Did you guess a TENNIS BALL?

Tennis balls can be harmful because their fuzzy outside acts like sandpaper when they chew on them. This sanding wears down the protective layer on their teeth called the enamel.

When this enamel is gone, it can lead to exposure of the pulp of the tooth which causes pain and can lead to infection.

“Fur Real Dental Trivia: Let’s Chew on This!”

Here's the answer to our first dental trivia question!

Dogs have 42 teeth while cats have 30 teeth. In comparison, humans have 32 teeth. Did you guess correctly?

Like humans, dogs and cats have two sets of teeth. They have baby teeth (also called deciduous teeth) that fall out at around 6 months and get replaced by their adult (permanent) teeth.

Keep a close eye on your puppy or kitten's teeth as those baby teeth can sometimes stick around and make it difficult for the adult teeth to grow in.
