I am the owner/optician of The Eye Place. I received my BS in Biology / Medical Technology from Salem State College in 1987. After graduating, I moved in a different direction, taking a job in the lab at Lenscrafters - where I gratefully apprenticed under a very knowledgeable and talented optician, who taught me everything I know and then some. In 1992, I moved out of the corporate, retail sector, and began working for an ophthalmology practice, until opening my shop on May 8, 2006...and never looked back!

Here, at The Eye Place, I have chosen to do things a bit differently than other optical shops. I feel it is my job to educate and guide my customers towards choices that best suit their needs. I do not “hard sell” or push products that I do not feel are necessary. I feel my shop offers an inviting, comfortable, easy going atmosphere! I always have and will continue to provide unmatched care throughout all aspects of your eyewear needs. Come by and say hello!

WHY COME TO ME FOR YOUR EYEWEAR NEEDS?
- I'm an experienced optician, 38 years
- I care more about helping you than "making the sale"
- I'm a great troubleshooter and do repairs so you don't have to buy a whole new pair of glasses
- I have an on site lab so I can replace lenses in your existing frames without taking them from you
- I work best by appointment, which will give you one on one time ~~~ no lines, no waiting
- Do I carry all the high end brand name frame? No, I don't...I choose to stock a diverse inventory supplied by small, independent vendors. If you really love your big brand name, boutique frames...bring them to me...I'll put lenses in them, and likely save you a nice sum of money
- I carry eyeglass sizes infants through adults as well as petite and XL fit
- Do I accept vision care plans (Eyemed, VSP, etc. for example)? No I don't ~~~ best to refer to my website graphic for a better understanding. These plans are the reason for the collapse of independent optical shops. The plans are OWNED by the same companies that own Lenscrafters, Pearle Vision, Target,
Vision Works, Four Eyes, etc. and are highly (unregulated) vertically integrated, money making machines

If you are serious about your vision, go to The Eye Place. I am an airline pilot, a hunter, a shooter, a boater and a fisherman. Vision is critical in all of these activities. I have been a patient/customer of Shellee Rubin for over 25 years. Her customer service is EXCEPTIONAL! She has opened her business on days off and has stayed late to accommodate my schedule. Her recommendations on frames that are both stylish and fit my face are always “spot on.” If you need progressive lenses, you have to ask her about lenses by Shamir Optical! These lenses have the most subtle prescription gradient over the surface of the lens. They are OUTSTANDING! The transition from near to far vision is effortless – it is like being a teenager again with 20:12 vision. I am not exaggerating when I say, “If your livelihood or your life depends on your vision, come see Shellee at The Eye Place.”
