Did you know? April is National Volunteer Month!

Throughout this month, we will be taking some time to celebrate and recognize the amazing contributions of the Matheny volunteers—starting today with a volunteer !

Last year, we had a volunteer project to repaint railings on walkways throughout the Matheny campus. These folks from Hyundai Genesis of Jersey City were among the volunteers who worked on that project. Thank you all, once again!

Today is !

All around the world, people come together today to recognize the dignity and worth of individuals with autism, and advocate for policies that promote neuroinclusive environments in health, education, workplaces, sports, and other sectors.

Over the years, significant progress has been made, driven in large part by autistic advocates who have worked tirelessly to bring the lived experiences of autistic individuals to the forefront of global discussions.

All of us at Matheny wish a Happy to all those beginning their celebrations this evening.

The eight-day Jewish holiday of Passover is celebrated in the early spring.

Passover commemorates the emancipation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt. It is observed by avoiding leaven and highlighted by the Seder meals that include four cups of wine, eating matzah and bitter herbs, and retelling the story of the Exodus.

Enriching Lives, Growing Abilities

Matheny’s mission is to provide exceptional care and an optimal quality of life for children and adults with special needs and medically complex developmental disabilities.

Overview Matheny is a special hospital for children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities . . . a special education school providing academics, combined with functional life skills, for students, ages 3-21 . . . and a comprehensive outpatient center meeting the health care needs of people with all types of disabilities in the community. Matheny also trains healthcare professionals, therapists and educators in how to work effectively with persons who have developmental disabilities.

Matheny’s main campus in Peapack, NJ, is home to 101 children and adults with developmental disabilities. Its five group homes, located in Somerset and Warren counties, provide a residence in the community for an additional 30 adults. Many of the children and adults currently at Matheny, in addition to their primary diagnoses, have a long list of associated clinical conditions such as vision and hearing deficits, seizure disorders, mental retardation and dysphagia, with resulting aspiration problems.
