🐾 Where to Check Your Pet for Ticks! 🐾

Ticks love to hide in warm, dark places on your pet. Be sure to check:
✔️ Around the ears
✔️ Under the collar
✔️ Between the toes
✔️ Around the tail
✔️ Under the legs
✔️ On the belly

🐶🐱 Like humans, pets can get tickborne diseases—and they can bring ticks into your home! Check your pet daily and remove any ticks you find. If you notice changes in behavior or appetite, contact your vet.

✨ Meet Peyton, Public Health Specialist (Communicable Disease & Rabies)! ✨

Peyton holds a B.S. in Health Science from Alfred State and an MPH in Environmental Health from Boston University. During her time at BU, she served as President of The Period Project, organizing donation drives with a local nonprofit to help address period poverty across Massachusetts. Products were distributed to homeless shelters, medical centers, schools, and domestic violence shelters, alongside on-campus menstrual equity initiatives. She also previously served as an Environmental Health Intern right here at YCPH 😊

Her public health interests include environmental health, occupational health, reproductive and sexual health, and epidemiology.

Peyton is most looking forward to starting her career in public health and feels grateful for the opportunity to work hands-on in the community. She’s excited to bring a fresh perspective to the field and to give back to the community that helped shape who she is.

Outside of work, you can find her collecting vinyl, listening to music, going to the movies, reading, and spending time with family. 🎶📚🎬

✨ Meet Alyssa, Director of Public Health! ✨

Alyssa is a Penn Yan Academy graduate and holds a Bachelor’s in Health Science & Psychology from Wells College and a Master of Public Health in Health Policy & Management from the University at Albany.

She brings over 8 years of experience in healthcare and public health, including 6 years in international development focused on program management and community health. Her previous roles include Associate Program Manager with Population Services International, supporting work in Mozambique, Angola, Uganda, and Tanzania; Women in Public Policy Fellow with the New York State Department for the Prevention of Domestic Violence; Community Health Service Promotor with Peace Corps Mozambique; Evaluation Consultant with the International Federation of the Red Cross & Red Crescent Society; Emergency Medical Technician; and Medical Scribe at Penn Yan Community Health.

While working abroad was an incredible experience, Alyssa missed the close community connection that public health provides. Her areas of interest include maternal and child health, reproductive health, and gender-based violence prevention.

Outside of work, Alyssa enjoys gardening, traveling and experiencing different cultures, languages, and food. She speaks Portuguese and is married with a son, a cat named Quiabo, and a dog named Ziko. 🌎🌱
