***Everyone meet June!***

This adorable mare is the latest rescue to come into the Sonoma County CHANGE Program. June was reported to have been tethered in a field on a long rope, and proceeded to tangle herself up in it, which resulted to her being on the ground with the rope around her neck choking her. June’s feet need help, she needs groceries, and some love. She has been with CHANGE for one week now, and is learning what carrots are, that not all people are scary, and she is getting the training she needs to make someone a great partner one day. She is very kind, curious, and so happy to be loved. Keep your eyes out for little Junebugs progress!

Sometimes you come across a student who makes your job worth it…… Kim is one of them!! Kim, you have come so far, keep showing up and striving to be better. You have improved so much over the last year….. it has been so fun to watch your confidence and knowledge soar. Your mare is so lucky to have you!!!! Can’t wait to see where your horse journey takes you ❤️

Arnie, part of the CHANGE program is officially up for adoption. He is about 9 years old, green broke, and has an amazing personality. He is ready for his forever home, with someone who has the skill set to further his training, or place him with a trainer to get him finished. Contact us or the CHANGE program for more information!

I’ve had a few girls the last couple years want some help with their barrel horses. We’ve all been to barrel races and gymkhanas and watched horses not want to go in the gate, rearing, bolting etc. Out come the bigger bits, tie downs…….and tears. **Frustration begins where experience ends. ** Then comes the line ….”yea, he IS a barrel horse.” 🤦🏻‍♀️ There is a better way. Do they get hot? Heck yea, they know their job and are ready to do it. Does that mean they should get away with crappy, dangerous behavior? Absolutely not. There IS a better way. Tune into the NFR. Those horses run faster and cleaner than Jane at the local barrel race, and they come down that alleyway anxiously waiting….but waiting, for their cue to go.

Let’s all do better by these horses. Let these ladies at the Finals be an inspiration to gain better knowledge of horsemanship for speed events such as barrel racing.

I want to take a moment and send a huge shout out to Dr. Courtney Lewis with Peregrine Equine. Dr Courtney has been a huge part of my success in making better horses. Whether it’s diagnosing mystery lameness, chiropractic work,  or something in between, Dr Courtney always has a way of improving the horses I have in my care.
My success is your success, my friend, and I am so thankful to have you and your skill set as a part of my barn!

Dr Courtney has also just become a first time mom, so congratulations! Your little girl’s gonna have the best mom, and I can’t wait to watch your journey ❤️

Every so often I get a horse in that I’m not very excited to work with. That would be Olive. Boy did she prove me wrong. She has turned out to be such a great mare, I’m sad to see her go!

Anyone heard of a Canadian? And I don’t mean a maple syrup drinking hockey loving human, I mean a registered Canadian horse? This cool guy came to me for some behavioral problems, and it’s been fun getting to know this breed I had never heard of. He is like a giant Shetland pony…. Adorable 😍.

Some people really want a horse to be light and soft in the face, but there are times when they get “behind the bit”, and when you pick up the reins, nothing is there. You want to at least feel the horse in your hands. This guy is learning to stretch out and not avoid the bit, in case you’re wondering what’s going on in this video. He is a very cute mover! ❤️
