I’ve had a few girls the last couple years want some help with their barrel horses. We’ve all been to barrel races and gymkhanas and watched horses not want to go in the gate, rearing, bolting etc. Out come the bigger bits, tie downs…….and tears. **Frustration begins where experience ends. ** Then comes the line ….”yea, he IS a barrel horse.” 🤦🏻♀️ There is a better way. Do they get hot? Heck yea, they know their job and are ready to do it. Does that mean they should get away with crappy, dangerous behavior? Absolutely not. There IS a better way. Tune into the NFR. Those horses run faster and cleaner than Jane at the local barrel race, and they come down that alleyway anxiously waiting….but waiting, for their cue to go.
Let’s all do better by these horses. Let these ladies at the Finals be an inspiration to gain better knowledge of horsemanship for speed events such as barrel racing.
