Thanks to the Pensacola News Journal for highlighting an important initiative—providing free mammograms to uninsured women in our community.

Gretchen Irwin, Ascension Sacred Heart Regional Imaging Director, provided insight on the importance and goals of this new program.
To qualify, women must be 40 or older, uninsured, a Florida resident, seeking a preventive screening, and have no current breast health symptoms.

By removing financial barriers and expanding access to early detection, Ascension Sacred Heart is helping ensure more women receive the care they need, when they need it. 🩷

Early detection saves lives 💙 In this video, gynecologic oncologist Dr. Helen Toma breaks down how cervical cancer progresses, from stage one (when it’s confined to the cervix and highly treatable) to more advanced stages.

The good news? Regular screening can often catch cervical cancer early—when cure rates are highest and recurrence risk is lower.

In case you missed it 💙 Elli never expected lower back pain to change her life. In 2020, she was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer and received care from radiation oncologist Dr. Veronica Carden and gynecologic oncologist Dr. Steven DeCesare.

Her story is a powerful reminder that listening to your body and staying up to date on screenings matters. Today, Elli is cancer-free and approaching her five-year milestone. 😊
