When the Soul Needs to Scream
Last year, while visiting a dear friend in the Caribbean a woman I know as one of the strongest souls on this planet. She took us to a mountaintop with a view so vast it felt like the edge of the world. No houses, no noise, just the wind and the sea breathing below us.
She told us that when life becomes heavy and tangled, she brings her daughter up here. Together, they stand at the top of that hill and scream, loud, raw, and free. When she finished sharing, she smiled and said, “It feels so good.”
We tried it.
And oh, it did.
It reminded me of my time living on our sailboat, when I would swim out, far from the noise of everything, dive deep beneath the surface, and scream into the sea. Above the water, only bubbles. Below, a full release, a soundless roar from my heart.
Life has a way of guiding us through a thousand winding paths. Some test us to our core, while others arrive as soft, synchronized moments, gentle whispers reminding us of what we’ve learned, and what we’ve earned.
The rewards come in many forms, sometimes as an awakening, sometimes as a simple experience that stirs something new inside.
This year has brought me both, the challenges and the gifts. And through it all, I’ve learned the importance of keeping a gentle hand over my heart, reminding myself:
You’re doing great. You are loved.
One of the ways I nurture this reminder is through sharing, through movement, through breath, through the practice of yoga. When I guide others in opening their hearts with love and compassion, I find that same love reflecting softly back to me.
