Happy National Park Week 2021! Did you know that there is an International Park Prescription Day? Saturday it was rainy here in Pensacola but maybe next year you can catch the Park Rx Day and enjoy the free day at any national park to embrace health and wellness in the outdoors. If you visit a National Park this week be sure to tell us about it here.

Today we encourage you to explore and discover the power national parks can have on your physical and mental health. Throughout the day we will post photos of activities you can participate in at Gulf Islands National Seashore! Don’t forget to share your photos with us!

As I am sure you are aware, the vaccine options are opening up with the major chains scheduling appointments! You can schedule online and I can say, the process was quick and easy. This picture warms my heart for so many reasons.

1- We are all ready to see our loved ones, friends, casual aquantances, favorite bands, etc.
2- I was vaccinated by my friend!
3- I was vaccinated by a Pharmacy Technician!

An update from the Florida Pharmacy Association!

LICENSURE RENEWALS EXTENDED

Florida Surgeon General Scott Rivkees issued Emergency Order DOH No. 20-015 that extended licensure renewal deadlines to March 31, 2021. This primarily will affect pharmacy technicians and pharmacist consultants that are due to renew at the end of this month. This order, driven primarily by the ongoing public health emergency, will provide a 3 month's grace period. Prescription department managers are encouraged to verify the registration status of pharmacy technicians. We learned a few weeks ago that there were a substantial number of technician who have yet to renew their registrations.

The emergency order also includes removes the option for the parent or guardian of a child to refuse to have the child immunization records included in the state's immunization registry (See F.S. 381.003 (1) (e) 2 and 3). That action also suspends a law that would allow a college or university student health center or clinic in Florida to refuse to be included in the immunization registry. Pharmacy providers should make sure that immunizations provided to children and adults have been recorded in Florida Shots.

With Kindest Regards

The year 2020 has been unprecedented, for everyone. The changes for healthcare workers, students, and teachers have been numerous and evolving. I was fortunate enough to be the program director for a hybrid pharmacy technician training program during this time. The time and care it takes to design and execute programs in this way can not be overlooked. Educational delivery was still a challenge even with this preparation. I am grateful I had years to prepare and will continue to modify and grow with the advancement of the profession.

I discussed how this is accomplished with the National Healthcareer Association earlier this year. I am grateful they have included my comments in the first Pharmacy Technician edition of Pharmacy Times. My colleagues and I spent hours discussing learning objectives, lesson modifications, and most importantly student success. Ensuring a competent workforce is educated and prepared to serve the public is a great responsibility and we are all honored to be in this together. Please feel free to read about our challenges below. Stay safe this holiday season and just know the next pharmacy technician graduates are prepared to help.
