Winter invites slowing down, reflecting, and listening to what your nervous system needs, not forcing change. Consider this gentle framework when welcoming the new year.

You don’t need to become someone new to be worthy of care. You don’t have to reinvent yourself as the new year rings in.

Consider looking back over your year of the highs & lows before looking forward and seeing what intentions you’d like to keep.

Intentions can be gentle reminders to care for yourself and hold true to your values. What intention are you carrying over into the new year?

gatherings can be overwhelming and this time of year, you could be getting invited to quite a few.

if you’re a neurodivergent person, even the invitation can feel like a threat. the excitement may wear off and the dread start setting in of the expectations and overstimulation.

support yourself. consider asking yourself “is this something I’d enjoy doing? would I be upset if I didn’t go?” and if you WANT to go, consider setting expectations ahead of time and accommodating yourself so it can feel enjoyable.

if you have a neurodivergent person in your life (you probably do), there are ways you can make your gatherings more accessible. above all else, ask your people! but know that cramming a bunch of people in a small space, playing obligatory active games, and watching for reactions to opening presents can feel really overwhelming to a lot of people.

accept that your neurodivergent family member might want to opt out, and yes, that’s absolutely okay. consider offering a 1-1 time to get together to enjoy a holiday coffee or exchange presents.

remember, your nervous system regulation is more important than expectations.

you can enjoy this holiday season. but you have to check in with yourself, first.

I think we can all agree the holidays aren’t always simple.

They can bring moments of warmth and connection, but also stress, grief, expectations, and family dynamics that have been around long before us.

This time of year has a way of touching old wounds. It can stir up memories, roles, and pressure to show up in ways that don’t actually feel good or safe.

If this season feels heavy, there’s nothing wrong with you. You’re not failing.

Sometimes the most supportive thing you can do is shift your focus to what’s within your control, and gently release the rest.

You get to choose how you engage, how you respond, and how you take care of yourself.
And that’s enough.

if you’ve been thinking about starting therapy, here’s your sign! I’ve got 5 new spots opening up Jan 19th, and i’d love to help you reach your goals.

no New Year’s resolutions here, we’re just looking for small, sustainable changes that YOU want to make.

if you’ve been feeling like:
✨ “I’ve been trying to fit this mold that everyone wants, and it’s exhausting.”
✨ “I feel like I can’t enjoy things the way other people do.”
✨ “I feel so overstimulated by daily life.”
✨ “I just feel so different from everyone else.”
✨ “I used to feel so far ahead of everyone, and now daily tasks feel overwhelming.”
✨”I’ve masked this part of myself for so long, and I’m questioning my identity.”
✨ “My family doesn’t accept me, and I’m having a hard time figuring out those relationships.”

then we may be a great fit to work together! You don’t have to do this alone.

check in on your parts! if you’re feeling unsure about upcoming holiday gatherings or extending yourself too far, it’s a great time to check in with yourself.

ask those parts of yourself: what do you need from me? are there boundaries you need to feel safer? do I need to bring comfort items with me? do I need to stay home?

we can question the “tradition” or the “system” that we’ve followed year after year. it doesn’t have to be the same, dreaded, anxious family gathering again this year.

keep that trust within your system & take care of yourself!

Honoring the National Day of Mourning means naming the truth, uplifting Indigenous voices, and committing to anti-colonial care. Reflect on how colonialism exists in your life, support Indigenous communities, and show up at Indigenous-led public events this week to learn and give back.

stuck in stress cycles and frustrated that tapping and ice isn’t fixing it?! well, you’re using distress tolerance tools not regulating your nervous system. if you are stuck in chronic stress cycles, you use those tools to create stabilization and safety to THEN do the work of increasing your window of tolerance and rewiring your old patterns! 🤩 and as a reminder, allll nervous system states have their purpose! it’s when we’re stuck chronically in one state that it becomes a problem.
