(Randy) Thompson specializes in Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, Orthostatic Intolerance and Neurally Mediated Syncope, but sees patients with other autonomic disorders as well
Dr. Randy Thompson completed his Internal Medicine degree from University of Alabama-Birmingham in 1985. He then went on to complete his Internal Medicine Residency at Caraway Hospital in Birmingham, AL. Dr. Thompson moved to Pensacola, FL in 1988 to begin his residency at West Florida Clinic/Hospital. Dr. Thompson is a board certified specialist in Internal Medicine and Autonomic Disorders. Dr. Thompson worked full time until 1997, when he began having unexplained health problems. He began fainting after standing for long periods and experiencing severe fatigue. He eventually could no longer work full time because of these health problems. Dr. Thompson had to give up his practice because of his condition. Eventually a doctor friend, whose wife had dysautonomia, told him about the disorder. Dr. Thompson went to UAB and was diagnosed with Dysautonomia in 1998. In 2000 Dr. Thompson began working with patients that also have dysautonomia. He returned to the University of Alabama School of Medicine to study under Dr.Cecil Coghlan. He has been back in practice on a limited basis for several years, treating only those with autonomic problems. Dr. Thompson mainly treats orthostatic intolerance, postural orthostatic hypotension and neurally mediated syncope, although he does see patients with other autonomic conditions. Recommended links:
