I want to talk about a certain running brand that for some reason women haven’t completely broken up with yet.
I’m not naming the brand because frankly that’s what they want.
But they put some rather interesting signage up along the Boston course this weekend…and promptly took two in particular down.
And from a Boston elitist view, I kind of see what the sign was trying to say.
Boston is one of the most prestigious road running events left.
It has extremely challenging qualifying times.
It’s made to be fast.
But it IS inclusive for a low low price of at least $10,000 in charity fundraising.
Now the signage that was up mentioned walkers were tolerated and honestly, at Boston, they are.
_____
Is running for everyone? Yes.
Is marathon road running for everyone? Also yes.
But every race course I’ve ever been on has cutoffs.
Even the Disney Balloon Ladies will come after your ass.
MCM has The Gauntlet.
Can you complete 100 miles walking?
Absolutely. I often say that everyone has the ability to complete 100 miles on their own two legs.
Most people just don’t want to take the time to do it.
_____
What’s my point?
I understand a sliver of the thought behind the signage.
Boston is for elite level running. I’ll even say that’s the primary focus of the race.
But it does also include the charity runners.
And for a running company that has done women dirty time and time again, they should learn to read the room.
Charity runners at Boston have begged, borrowed, and probably bled their way to toe the line at Boston.
And they will compete the same 26.2 miles as the people who go sub 3.
No participant should ever just be tolerated.
Running is for everyone.
