So proud of this sweet friend! During our intensive we worked hard on strengthening our left arm and improving weightbearing tolerance. Not only did he get stronger and tolerate weightbearing like a champ, but he’s starting to use his left arm during belly crawling and starting use his left arm to help balance in sitting!🥳

This sweet friend had a big goal to complete dressing tasks independently- and one of our focus areas was to improve his hand strength in order to be able to maintain a strong grip on his clothing items! Not pictured- for the first time ever he was able to independently doff his shirt and don his pants!! Huge leap forward for independence with self care skills🥳 Proud of you buddy!!.

Propaganda I’m not falling for as a pediatric OT:

🙅🏼‍♀️ OTs only do fine motor & upper extremity ➡️ OTs have such a wide scope of practice to address many areas of development!

🙅🏼‍♀️ Just “wait and see” ➡️ early intervention is key!

🙅🏼‍♀️ Crawling no longer being a recognized milestone ➡️ crawling is a crucial milestone for developing many areas including vision, bilateral coordination, and more!

🙅🏼‍♀️ A single treatment modality being the holy grail for every single patient ➡️ therapy is never one size fits all and treatment modalities should be chosen on an individualized basis!

What other things did I miss?!

As a DMI practitioner I am so grateful for every opportunity I have to do 1:1 mentorship sessions with the co-founders of DMI🙌 Thank you Jake for helping me grow! This sweet girl rocked her 2 week intensive🥳 We worked hard on trunk extension, functional transitions, and primitive reflex integration. We also incorporated Theratogs to assist with external rotation of her legs, to facilitate trunk extension & glute activation, as well as increased sensory input for improved body awareness. So so proud of you!❤️.
