👣 PICKLEBALL TOE IS REAL👣

Pickleball is addictive… but so is this injury 👀🎾”

Those black toenails?
👉 Repetitive trauma = “Pickleball Toe”

Those dark spots under the nails? That’s subungual hematoma — basically bruising from repetitive micro-trauma.

And guess what… we’re seeing a LOT more of it with the pickleball boom.

👉 Quick stops
👉 Hard toe box contact
👉 Ill-fitting shoes
👉 Long matches in Arizona heat

All add up.

Quick stops + tight shoes + long matches = bruised nails.

The result:
Pain, pressure, nail discoloration… and sometimes nail loss.

How to prevent “Pickleball Toe”:
✅ Proper shoe fit (thumb-width space in the toe box)
✅ Moisture-wicking socks
✅ Keep nails trimmed short
✅ Consider sport-specific footwear (not just running shoes)

Already dealing with this?
Don’t ignore it—especially if there’s pain or increasing pressure. In some cases, simple in-office treatment can relieve symptoms fast.

Stay on the court, not on the sidelines.
If your feet are taking a beating, we’ve got you covered.

!!!!! THIS IS THE VERY DEFINITION OF NON COMPLIANCE !!

“Weight-bearing” in a CAM walker doesn’t mean anything goes.

Just because you’re cleared to walk in a boot doesn’t mean you’re ready for uneven terrain, hiking trails, or high-impact activity.

A CAM walker (controlled ankle motion boot) is designed to:
✔ Protect healing tissue
✔ Limit motion and stress across the foot/ankle
✔ Allow controlled, level-ground weight bearing

What it does NOT do:
🚫 Eliminate all risk
🚫 Stabilize you on uneven or unstable surfaces
🚫 Replace proper healing timelines

Activities like hiking, climbing, or navigating rocky terrain significantly increase:
• Risk of falls
• Twisting injuries
• Delayed healing or re-injury

Bottom line:
“Weight-bearing as tolerated” means safe, controlled, and appropriate activity—not pushing the limits.

If you’re unsure what’s allowed during your recovery, it’s always better to ask before setting yourself back weeks.

👉 Protect the progress. Respect the process.

🛑 STOP IGNORING A COLLAPSING ARCH.

If one of your feet is starting to **flatten, roll inward, or look different from the other**…
That’s not just “flat feet.”

It could be **Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction (PTTD)** — and it’s a **progressive problem**.

Here’s what’s really happening 👇

You have a key tendon running along the inside of your ankle — the **posterior tibial tendon**.

Its job?
👉 Act like a **suspension cable** holding up your arch.

Now imagine this…

That cable starts to:

* Get overloaded
* Degenerate
* Slowly stretch out

Over time…

💥 It can’t hold the arch anymore → your foot begins to collapse.

That’s why you might notice:
⚡ Your arch getting lower over time
⚡ Foot rolling inward (overpronation)
⚡ Pain along the inside of your ankle or foot
⚡ Swelling behind the inner ankle
⚡ Difficulty standing on your toes on that side

This is what I call the **“Snapped Suspension System.”**
Because once that support weakens… the whole structure starts to fall.

Now here’s the mistake people make ❌
They ignore it… or just “train through it”…

But this isn’t just weakness.

It’s a **failing support system**.

And the longer you wait…
The harder it is to reverse.

So here’s what you need to do 👇

First — get it assessed.
👉 This is not a DIY injury.
A professional diagnosis is **critical early**.

Second — unload the tendon.
Depending on severity:

* Walking boot
* Activity modification

Third — support the arch.
👉 Use **orthotics** to reduce strain on the tendon.

Why this matters 👇
Because early stages can be **managed and slowed**…

But advanced stages can lead to:
❌ Permanent flatfoot
❌ Chronic pain
❌ Even surgery

Think of it like a bridge cable:

If it starts fraying…
You don’t wait for it to snap.

You support it immediately.

Ignore this… and your foot structure can permanently change.

🔥 Not All Heel Pain Is Plantar Fasciitis 🔥

If you’re dealing with heel pain, it’s easy to assume it’s just plantar fasciitis… but that’s not always the case.

👉 While plantar fasciitis is common, there are several other causes of heel pain that require different treatments:

✅ Fractures – small cracks in the heel bone from overuse
✅ Heel Fat Pad Syndrome – thinning of the natural cushion under your heel
✅ Achilles Tendinitis – pain in the back of the heel, especially with activity
✅ Nerve Entrapment – burning, tingling, or shooting pain
✅ Bursitis – inflammation near the heel from pressure or irritation

🚫 Treating every heel pain the same can lead to longer recovery, worsening symptoms, and frustration

At Desert Sports Foot & Ankle, we take a sports medicine approach to heel pain—getting to the root cause so you can heal properly and get back to doing what you love.

🚨 BIG NEWS: The FDA Just Changed the Game on Peptides… Here’s What You Need to Know 🚨

If you’ve been hearing about peptides like BPC-157 and TB-500 for healing injuries, you’re not alone — they’ve become a hot topic in sports medicine and recovery.

Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has increased regulation and enforcement surrounding compounded peptides — and that matters for both patients and providers.

👉 What does this mean?
• Many peptides are NOT FDA-approved for human use
• Compounding pharmacies are facing stricter oversight and limitations
• Quality, safety, and sourcing are now under the spotlight more than ever

💡 Why this matters to YOU:
While peptides have been promoted for healing (tendon injuries, plantar fasciitis, ligament sprains), the reality is:
➡️ Clinical evidence is still evolving
➡️ Regulation is tightening
➡️ Not all treatments being marketed are safe or legitimate

⚠️ Bottom line:
If you’re considering peptide therapy, it’s critical to:
✔️ Understand the risks
✔️ Know what is (and isn’t) FDA-approved
✔️ Work with a qualified medical provider

🏥 At Desert Sports Foot & Ankle, we stay on the cutting edge of evidence-based regenerative medicine — while prioritizing patient safety and proven results.
