It's getting chilly and winter is near! Prevent that extra weight gain during this cold season!
1. Keeping Up With Exercise!
This is key whether you're looking to maintain or drop weight. Just because it is getting colder, still make that trip to Markin! Or better yet, don't let it derail you from the outdoor runs you love, just layer up so you still feel toasty warm when it's 30 degrees! Get your sweat on in the indoor pool we have Markin as well, anything to keep up with your workouts!
2. Coffee Keeping You Warm?
Be careful which hot beverage you choose! Specialty spiced coffees, hot cocoa, and mulled wine may call to you during colder months, but zero-calorie teas are a better choice!
3. Not Into Salads? No Problem!
Sticking your fork into a cold bowl of green isn't exactly something that will warm you up on a cold day! So if you're not into fresh salads at this time of year, be sure to get your veggies in other ways. Throw greens in your fruit smoothies, enjoy baked sweet potatoes and parsnips in hearty soups, casseroles, and cooked whole grains.
4. Lighten Up on the Comfort Food!
Mac and cheese, lasagna, mashed potatoes, burgers, and baked goods- all recipes to warm you up on a cold day, right? Unfortunately, they tend to be high in calories, so just be sure to enjoy smaller portions of your favorites!
5. Say No to Baggy!
Although roomy sweaters, sweatshirts, sweatpants, and leggings are a comfy and warm option, constantly wearing baggy or stretchy clothes makes you lose sight of your body underneath. Go for a more fitted attire, whether working or hanging out. This will also encourage less lounging around!
6. Scale Time and Food Logs
No one ever said they loved stopped on the scale, but it's one accurate way to keep you honest! Since weight gain happens one pound at a time, keeping close tabs on your weight will help you notice right away if the pounds are creeping on so you can quickly make changes to your diet. Along with that, track your diet using easy and fun apps like MyFitnessPal! That way, if you are gaining, you can quickly target the foods that may be the cause. Make these a habit, weight yourself at least one a day and track your food daily.
7. Get Away
Going on spring break this year? Or maybe planning a warm vacation over winter break? This can keep you on track fitness-wise knowing you'll be sporting a bathing suit in a few weeks. This should give a little more motivation for those daily work outs!
8. Cheers!
All of those extra cups of celebration during the school year and over the holidays could cause your clothes to feel a little snug. Alcohol is not only empty calories, it also lowers your inhibitions, making you more likely to say yes to that third helping of mashed potatoes. Limit your alcohol to one beverage a night and sip slowly to make it last.
Any questions? Fire them away!
