At FamilyCore's Annual Meeting, we celebrated our organization's 125th year of serving children and families in need!

We would like to thank our incredible panel, who spoke about FamilyCore’s Family School Liaison Program: Dr. Ann Bond, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, Peoria Public Schools District 150; Amy Hubner, Coordinator of Student Services, Pekin Public School District 108; and Stan Hagen, Family School Liaison.

We also congratulate these outstanding individuals who received awards for exemplifying FamilyCore’s mission: Joanna Kenser, Adoption Preservation Case Manager, recipient of the Sharon Nagai-Phelps Memorial Employee Award; Lynn McPheeters, recipient of the Heart of the Family Award; and Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat, Superintendent of Peoria Public Schools District 150, recipient of the Heart of the Family Award.

Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat, Superintendent of Peoria Public Schools District 150, was presented with FamilyCore’s 2025 “Heart of the Family Award”, given each year to an individual who has dedicated time and effort to exemplify the FamilyCore Mission: Instilling hope by creating the right balance of resources and care to foster and equip healthy, productive children & families.

Dr. Kherat has had a significant impact on children and families within the city of Peoria and beyond. Her list of accomplishments is endless, and her journey of service began with a vision and a passion to create, build, and persevere despite obstacles. Dr. Kherat is a visionary, mentor, and guide. She is a leader who has invested in building better futures for Peoria students and their families. Our community is filled with lives changed because of Dr. Kherat’s commitment to the value of each human being and her passion to see each person obtain the education, vision, and confidence to live their lives fulfilled.

At the turn of the century, Associated Charities and Philanthropies was formed to coordinate the efforts of multiple charities, and it worked with 1,339 clients to inspire “thrift, independence, and better modes of life.”
Fast forward to today, and FamilyCore serves just over 19,000 individuals in its growing number of outreach, child welfare, and counseling programs aimed at strengthening family life in the local area.
