FamilyCore's leadership, board, and staff were deeply honored and profoundly moved to celebrate our 125th Birthday at Peoria City Hall, the very place where our organization began on December 15, 1900. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mayor Ali, City of Peoria Illinois - Government, for graciously opening the doors of such a historically significant site, allowing us to honor our legacy and reflect on FamilyCore's impact over the past 125 years.

Beginning in 1991, The Heart of Illinois Holiday Tree Festival lit up the Opera House at Expo Gardens with beautifully decorated trees, music, and food—all to benefit Counseling and Family Services (now ) and the Peoria Area Arts and Sciences Council.

Born out of Peoria's City Hall, our organization’s first employee was a nurse, and the second was a horse. The two traveled along Peoria’s riverbanks to serve those in need. Today, FamilyCore has continued to evolve to meet the changing needs of families while remaining rooted in our founding values. Last year alone, FamilyCore touched the lives of 19,164 individuals.

We proudly celebrate FamilyCore’s 125th birthday, where it all began! FamilyCore’s CEO Ann Lading-Ferguson is honored to be joined by Dr. Rita Ali, Mayor, City of Peoria Illinois - Government; Robert Sinkler, Executive Coordinating Director of Corn Belt Ports; Dr. Anshu Singh, Director of Sustainability and Conservation of Corn Belt Ports; and Ron Tyler, FamilyCore's Chief Program Officer. Together, we mark this milestone with gratitude, pride, and a renewed commitment to serving families for generations to come.

Today, we joyfully celebrate FamilyCore’s 125th Birthday—a milestone made possible by generations of families, supporters, and unwavering community support!

Founded in 1900, FamilyCore’s mission has always been to strengthen families for a stronger community. Early on, FamilyCore championed services like the Juvenile Court and Peoria’s first nurse for underserved families. Over the decades, we expanded to offer counseling, health education, and child welfare programs, always focusing on what families need.

Our vision—Strengthening Families for a Stronger Community—guides every program and connection we make.

As we look to the future, we reaffirm our mission and our vision of a community where every family feels supported and connected. In our 125th year, we celebrate: Stronger Families, Stronger Futures.
