It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Dr. Lori Russell-Chapin’s passing on March 13, 2024. Dr. Lori was a wife, mother, friend, counselor and teacher. She was co-founder of Chapin and Russell Associates alongside her husband and life partner, Dr. Ted Chapin. They opened their practice in 1986 to serve the mental health needs of the Peoria community. In 2003, Chapin and Russell Associates found their permanent home on Willow Knolls Drive in Peoria, IL. With her enduring compassion and loving spirit, she balanced raising a family with Ted, teaching graduate counseling students at Bradley University, supervising counselors in their professional work and provided counseling to clients who appreciated her candor and encouragement.

Through her practice at Chapin and Russell Associates, Dr. Lori received her Board Certification in Neurofeedback, supervising staff and helping clients forge new neural pathways as a means for creating long-lasting, positive mental health change. Dr. Lori was a prolific author, researcher and practitioner. Of particular note was her column in Counseling Today and several books on counseling, supervision, and neurofeedback, many written with her husband Ted. Dr. Lori was also a celebrated presenter. Along with Ted, she openly shared the knowledge and experience they gained throughout their work together with other professionals across the United States and the world.

Dr. Lori touched the lives of many and worked tirelessly to heal the hearts and souls of those who deeply appreciated her genuine care and tender guidance. She had an unmatched devotion to her clients, as well as those she mentored. She met everyone in life with kindness and compassion. Dr. Lori strongly held the belief that we are all capable of living from our better parts, reaching our goals, and feeling loved and fulfilled.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of Lori’s life will be held at 5:00 PM on Friday, April 5, 2024 with memorial visitation from 3:00 to 5:00 pm prior to a ceremony at the Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home, 2408 West Willow Knolls in Peoria. A live stream will be available from the Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home page.

Its that time of year again. Its time for the 8th annual Super Brain Summit at Bradley University, which is organized by our very own Lori Russell-Chapin. This year she will be bringing Deb Dana who is a clinician, consultant, author and speaker specializing in complex trauma. Her work is focused on using the lens of Polyvagal Theory to understand and resolve the impact of trauma in our lives.
