HAPPY ⭐️100th⭐️ BIRTHDAY SCOTT!! 🎉
Scott is an amazing man with the most wonderful family, and a remarkable history! Scott was merely 7 years old when the Great Depression hit in 1929, followed by the stock market crash known as Black Tuesday. During those years, unemployment rose to 23% in the US, and many families were struggling to stay afloat. The Depression lasted until 1933, only to be followed by the Holocaust in 1940, and the attack at Pearl Harbor in 1941. Scott had barely turned 21 years old at this point. It was during World War II that Scott met his beloved wife, Mady, overseas and instantly fell in love. Shortly afterwards, Mady emigrated to the US without knowing a lick of English, and learned the language while teaching their own children to read! Scott and Mady lived through many bombings and precarious situations, and found an everlasting love in each other and their 5 children. Once WWII ended, they enjoyed a few years of peace, and then lived to see many more conflicts and victories - the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Act, the first man in Space, Y2K, school bombings, 9/11, and so much more. We are honored to know and serve someone that has served our country in more ways than we can fathom. Thank you, Scott, and Happy Birthday!⭐💙❤️🤍

Where does Arizona stand with COVID-19?

Arizona has become a new “hot spot” for Covid-19 and in the Top 5 States with new cases of Covid-19. In March and April, we were seeing about 300-400 new cases of Covid-19 per day. Since the beginning of June, we have seen over 1,000-1,500 of new cases per day.
Hospitals throughout the valley are now concerned with their ICU capacity as beds are very quickly filling up. According to the AZ Department of Health, close to 80% of all ICU beds are in use, with only 20% remaining available, and 16% of Inpatient beds currently available. Banner recently reported that the “number of patients on ventilators in the Banner system has quadrupled since mid-May.” (https://www.medpagetoday.com/ infectiousdisease/covid19/87004) Our hospitals are preparing to enact emergency protocols as they are expected to become more strapped for space and resources.

What do we do now?

At this time, our governor is urging the elderly population and individuals with underlying health conditions to limit their time away from home. Homes with vulnerable individuals must take precautions to protect those within their home and be aware that any member within the household can carry the virus home after being out in public. (Executive Order 2020-36: Stay Healthy, Return Smarter, Return Stronger)
Now is the time to be extremely vigilant about taking precautions to prevent the spread:
1. Wear a mask out in public.
2. Wash your hands (or use hand sanitizer) consistently.
3. Social distance. Leave at least 6 feet between you and others.
4. Monitor your symptoms and Stay Home if you are sick.

What does this mean for Acacia Heights?

The primary goal in our response to Covid-19 is the protection of our residents and staff. We hope to keep Acacia Heights free of Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations, and greatly appreciate your cooperation thus far.
We are monitoring the situation closely and will continue to follow CDC and AZ Department of Health guidelines. The AZ Department of Health is phasing the re-opening of Arizona based on the following data points:
• A consistent Decline in Percentage of Positive Tests, and
• A consistent Decline in Hospital Visits for Covid and Influenze-like illnesses.

The elderly and individuals with underlying health conditions are most at risk of developing severe respiratory distress due to Covid-19. Therefore, we ask your assistance in keeping our current visitation and social distancing guidelines.
• Suspend all social visits.
• Do not take any residents outside of the home unless there is a medical emergency. This includes: social outings, church attendance, non-urgent doctor visits and other appointments.
• Virtual visits via DUO continue to be available for family members
• We will continue virtual visits with our residents’ medical team and specialists.
• All outside activities and entertainment will remain suspended until further notice.

Acacia Heights will continue to minimize the risk of spreading respiratory illness by actively maintaining these precautions within the facility:
• All frequently used surfaces, countertops and areas where food is handled will be disinfected multiple times throughout the day. This also included doorknobs, remote controls, telephones and bedside tables.
• Any resident or staff member that develops symptoms will be immediately isolated in their room until cleared by their medical practitioner. Should your family member show any signs of respiratory illness, you will be notified immediately.
• All residents will be encouraged to use mouthwash at least 2x/day to continually maintain their oral health.
• All residents will be reminded to wash or sanitize their hands throughout the day and prior to eating.
Thanks again for your support during this trying time. We are so thankful for the opportunity to serve you and your family.

Today we celebrated these amazing residents with a memorable Drive-By Parade. These residents have lived through the Great Depression, the Holocaust, and fought multiple Wars to defend our country. They have worked harder than we can imagine to support their families - most with 5 children and more! Today is their day to be pampered and showered with love!
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who drove by today to show their love and support for our residents. You made our day! Without you, this would have been a pretty lame parade. 😄We were so thrilled to see everyone again and reconnect for a brief moment. ❤️
Another massive Thank You to the amazing people that helped us make this flawless... Donna Avram, Nyree Povee, Melanie Hoskinson, and Hoorah Elder Activities. ❤️
We are looking forward to resuming "normal life" again, but in the meantime, we'll make the best of it! 😊 Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected
