This is a problem at many high schools across the country and most middle schools. School districts need to do a better job of protecting our student-athletes.

“You go down to the local high school, and it’s one athletic trainer taking care of 400 athletes in six different venues,” Thornton said.

Concussions are a big deal. If you experience concussion symptoms you need to take the time to rest. Be evaluated by your athletic trainer and physician. Follow the recommendation of the physician. Parents, coaches, and administrators cannot make return to play decisions, especially for concussion.

Understanding the danger of lightning is important. If you hear thunder or see lightning you should seek a normally occupied structure.

The National Athletic Trainers' Association released the Inter-Association Consensus Statement on Best Practices for Sports Medicine Management for Secondary Schools and Colleges. This is an interesting read and one that I hope can be implemented fully at Pennridge.
