1 Corinthians 1:27-29

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being[a] might boast in the presence of God.

Dear Heavenly Father:

You hide blessings in opposite places. Strength is found in humility. Sure faith found in doubts. The beauty of divinity in the ordinary of humanity. Forgiveness in confession. Salvation at the cross. Help us to reflect our new status as the saved children of God with pride subdued and humbled to help. Amen!

Dear Heavenly Father:

Divisions of people are a natural thing, some for good, most for not. We sort ourselves by politics, athletics, geography, age, race, philosophy, denomination of religion and other things of our affection. You have made us different people and given us the freedom to embrace our differences. Yet, divisions breed hate and lead to sin. Help us to find our unity in the love of God, revealed, given, and empowered in the Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, who has removed our division of sin from Your righteousness. May we remember our real unity, citizens of heaven, all under your mercy, and empower us to live under that unifier. In Jesus, Amen!

Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—

Dear Heavenly Father:

Your mercies are many and your love is beyond compare. We have no way to earn your favor, yet you bring it by sacrificing your Son on our behalf, and through faith remaking us with His own righteousness, and all by grace alone. Guide us as your children into the good you intend for us to do today, even if it is hard. You are with us, always. Thanks be! In Jesus, Amen.

Dear Heavenly Father:

We praise You for your constant companionship. You walk with us each day and your angels watch over us each night. Your defending is more than just from physical or emotional evil; you protect our faith in the face of all other harms. Help us to lean ever closer into You, trusting in Your grace and mercy for the salvation of our souls and the protection of Your angels as we walk in any harm’s way. In Jesus, our defender and Lord. Amen!

Dear Heavenly Father:

We see, but don’t. We hear, but do not listen. We feel but miss other’s feelings. Give us clarity as we go forward this week to see you in our neighbor’s need, to hear you in Your holy Word, to share our hearts in compassion for others. Empower us to faithfully speak of Your love and show it in all we do! In Jesus we go! Amen.
