It has been months since we began being impacted by COVID-19. Restaurants, hair salons, stores, etc have reopened, but with new stipulations. Sanitation has improved, and Wood County is now required to wear a mask in public. Accepting these changes has been difficult for most. Accepting that vacations had to be rescheduled, jobs have been lost, seeing friends and family through windows or at least 6 feet apart has not been welcomed either. This movement towards the unknown of our new "normal" has been anxiety ridden and depressing for many.
I want to challenge everyone to try to embrace the changes. It is important that we 'radically accept' what we have been through, and what we cannot control. The concept of radical acceptance is not about saying what is happening in the world is okay, but rather to not fight against what we cannot control. By choosing to fight against the injustice we believe we are going through, the longer we stay in a state of suffering. Feeling irritated and angry about being required to wear a mask is only causing you to suffer longer. If we radically accept the fact that we have to wear a mask in public, it will only make it easier to allow this to become part of our new norm and habit.
