Just because someone is related to you does not mean you have to keep them in your life if they are a toxic person. If all they do is demean and insult you then you have no obligation to keep them in your life. If others don't like that you have cut off ties with a family member due to their toxicity, then that is too bad. You get to decide who stays in your life. No one else should dictate that.

It won't be easy, but it has to be done.
