IT'S TIP TUESDAY
Today's tip comes from our speech therapist on the importance of oral care. Oral care may be seen as just brushing your teeth twice a day but oral care in our elderly patients helps prevent pneumonia in patients who have difficulty swallowing (dysphagia) and are at risk for aspiration. By keeping our mouths clean, we are preventing the bacteria from our mouths from traveling down into other areas, specifically our lungs. Oral care is recommended as follows for our elderly patients: brushing morning and night along with rinsing throughout the day with mouth wash. Here are some additional positive oral care habits for our seniors!
