I care deeply about the topic of Consent.
Because consent is not as simple as we once thought.
We now understand so much more about the nervous system — about how the body can freeze under stress. Many girls and women don’t “just leave” in unsafe situations. They pause. They shut down. They wait for it to end. Not because they agreed — but because their nervous system took over.
This is why preparation matters.
Consent isn’t only about saying “no.”
It’s about recognizing your internal “yes.”
It’s about knowing your boundaries before you walk into a situation.
It’s about practicing the words ahead of time.
It’s about understanding red flags.
And it starts much earlier than most people think.
Consent begins with hugging. With kissing. With learning the difference between:
• Nervous but excited
• And reluctant but unsure
Between:
• “I want to.”
• And “I guess I should.”
Our kids need more than a single class conversation at school. They need nuance. They need practice. They need language.
And they need parents who feel equipped to lead.
If you want support in having these conversations, I invite you to join me for:
