In the winter, it can be especially difficult to get out of the house and connect with others. In today's edition of our Power 9 series, the habit we want to highlight is Friends at 5! 👬

Friends at 5 is centered around having regular plans to connect with friends at the end of your day. This could be over a cup of tea, coffee, snack, or simply having a social plan in the calendar. Friends at 5 helps build communities of belonging, deepens friendships, and fights isolationism.

Have a friend you love hanging out with? Tag them in the comment!

*Note - the original Power 9 featured "Wine at 5", though at Blue Zones Project Petaluma we have shifted this to Friends at 5, given the large amount of alcohol consumed in our community.

Please join us in wishing a Happy Birthday to the one and only Nichole Warwick! 🎈

Nichole is not only the Executive Director of Blue Zones Project Petaluma - she is also an incredible person, friend, leader and mentor to so many.

We are grateful for you today and every day Nichole!

Thank you to the Petaluma Police Department for this important reminder heading into the holiday season! As we enjoy holiday parties and celebrate with our “Positive Pack,” let’s do so safely.

Our Policy team has worked to remind families that under the social host ordinance, adults who host or allow gatherings with underage drinking can face fines up to $1,000 and additional legal consequences—even if they weren’t home or didn’t supply the alcohol.

Let’s keep our celebrations safe and positive, Petaluma! 💙✨

These are just a few of the wonderful community members who volunteered to be part of a Career Day session we recently organized in partnership with San Antonio High School!

For this event, students got to hear from a variety of community members who have blazed their own path. From freelance photographers and hair stylists, to personal trainers and community garden coordinators, this event helped connect students to real life, local examples of people and organizations to connect with and learn from.

It was a beautiful day! ☀️

Every Monday, we've been sharing a different element of the "Power 9", the nine key lifestyle habits of the Blue Zones communities around the world. This week's habit is Plant Slant! 🍅

Beans, including fava, black, soy, and lentils are the cornerstone of most centenarian diets. Other common plant-based foods include: nuts, tofu, tempeh, chickpeas, and quinoa, to name a few. 🥜

To be clear - this is not directly championing a vegetarian, vegan, or any other specific diet with any label at all! We are simply highlighting eating a wide variety of fruits and veggies, regardless of your protein source.

What is your favorite fruit or veggie? Share in the comments! 🥦

Happy Monday! In this week's edition of the "Power 9 Series", we are spotlighting Downshifting. 😌

Stress leads to chronic inflammation, which is associated with every major age-related disease. But there are simple routines that can slow down your life, aka downshift, to shed stress.

Okinawans take a few moments each day to remember their ancestors, Adventists pray, Ikarians take a nap, and Sardinians spend time with friends and loved ones.

What is one way you can downshift this week? Share with us in the comments!

This week, we hosted an end of year Breakfast Social Hour, in partnership with Petaluma Community Relations Council (PCRC), for the wonderful community members and Partner Organizations who have been attending our regular gatherings throughout the year.

Every other month, we host a gathering with leaders of different nonprofits and similar organizations in town to learn, connect, and stimulate collaboration in the community.

We are grateful for all of these wonderful people, and the amazing work they are doing in our community!

⭐VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT ⭐

Today we are highlighting the Laurie Morell in our volunteer spotlight! Laura volunteered to support our recent 10-week Outdoor Zumba Class in partnership with Petaluma River Park!

Laurie would arrive early each week, helping participants check in for the class and find their way from the parking area through the park to the class stage.

🙌Read these images to see Laurie answer a few questions about the benefits of volunteering, and what she took away from the experience.

Without community members like this, our community-driven initiatives would not be able to happen! We appreciate you Laurie!

TONIGHT! ⭐ We invite you to attend the Petaluma City Council, taking place at City Hall at 6:30pm. In this meeting you can provide public comment and show your support to help keep safer streets a community priority!

Blue Zones Project Petaluma applauds the City Council’s leadership on safer streets and the D Street Traffic Calming & Active Transportation Pilot.

This project aligns directly with both the City’s Active Transportation Plan and the Blue Zones Blueprint to build a connected, safe walking and biking network.

Prioritizing pedestrian and bike infrastructure strengthens community health, vibrancy, and long-term sustainability. We encourage you to show your support! 🚲
