At Poplar Springs, our programs are intended to meet the unique needs of patients who are experiencing psychiatric and substance abuse problems that impair their daily functioning.
We offer a confidential, caring environment that promotes crisis resolution, positive self-awareness, social skills and personal growth.
Depression and anxiety can make even the smallest tasks feel overwhelming. But with the right support, healing becomes possible.
One of our recent Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) patients at Poplar Springs Hospital shares how outpatient treatment helped him move from surviving to truly living. Through trauma-informed care, group therapy, grounding techniques, and daily coping skills, he learned how to manage panic, regulate emotions, and build a future he feels hopeful about.
In his own words:
“I came in overwhelmed. I left with tools that changed my life. For the first time in a long time, I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
🎥 Stay tuned for his full video testimonial, where he opens up about surviving depression and anxiety — and how structured outpatient care made a difference.
If you or someone you love is struggling, you don’t have to face it alone.

At Poplar Springs Hospital, our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) provides structured, full-day outpatient treatment for adults and adolescents who need more support than traditional outpatient care—while still returning home each evening.
Our compassionate team focuses on stabilization, skill-building, and long-term wellness in a safe, supportive environment.
If you or a loved one needs support without inpatient admission, PHP may be the right next step.
We’re honored to welcome Officer Jason Babu and his K-9 partner, Neon, from the Petersburg Police Department, who will be onsite this holiday season visiting our adolescents, military members, and first responders.
Neon’s visits are always a highlight for our staff and patients—bringing comfort, connection, and a few much-needed smiles. These regular visits make a meaningful impact, especially during the holidays, and we are grateful for the continued partnership and support.
Thank you, Officer Babu and Neon, for your service to our community and for taking the time to spread encouragement and joy where it’s needed most.

The Poplar Springs Hospital leadership team, led by our Group CEO Michael Triggs, enjoyed our annual holiday outing aboard the Spirit of Norfolk!
We celebrated another meaningful year of service, connection, and teamwork—while also looking ahead. During our time together, we discussed our vision and priorities for 2026, including new ways we hope to support and strengthen our community.
It was a day full of laughter, holiday sweaters, and shared purpose. Most importantly, it reminded us why we do what we do—because people matter.
Happy Holidays from all of us at Poplar Springs Hospital!

After serving in the U.S. Navy, Michael faced challenges with mental health, substance use and stability. Seeking help led him to the Military Program at Poplar Springs Hospital, where he found structure, care and a community that truly understands military culture.
Through the Crisis Track, Michael gained tools to manage stress, stay consistent with medication, and focus on self-improvement. The veteran community there became a support system built on trust and respect.
Michael’s message to fellow service members and veterans:
“Reach out before it becomes a crisis. There is real strength in asking for help.”
