Central State Hospital, originally known as the Central Lunatic Asylum, is a psychiatric facility in Petersburg, Virginia. It was the first psychiatric hospital in the country for "colored persons of unsound mind." It serves the greater Richmond region of Virginia for civil and lower-risk forensic admissions, and its maximum security unit serves the entire Commonwealth for higher-risk forensic adm
