Black History Month Fascinating Funeral Fact: R.S. Lewis & Sons Funeral Home in Memphis, Tennessee, prepared Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s body after his assassination in 1968. Robert Lewis Jr. and his brother Clarence E. Lewis worked for 13 hours to prepare the body, which was then laid in state in an open bronze casket. The funeral home did not charge the family.
