With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the passing of Sylvester Russell Smith, affectionately known as “Smitty,” who peacefully departed this life on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Hunter-McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond at the age of 87.

Mr. Smith lived a life of honor and dedication, proudly serving 28 years in the United States Army and retiring with the distinguished rank of Sergeant Major.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Memorial Chapel, 10600 Sisisky Blvd., Fort Lee, VA 23801.

Interment will follow at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, Prince George, VA 23805.

Public visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the Petersburg Chapel of Bland Funeral Home, 137 Harrison Street, Petersburg, VA.

Bland Funeral Homes extends our deepest condolences as we honor the life of Mr. Clarence E. Graves Jr.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 PM on Monday, April 6th, at the Petersburg Chapel of Bland Funeral Homes, 137 Harrison Street. During this service, the members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. will conduct a Memorial Service in his honor. Immediately following the Celebration of Life, a repast will be held in the Community Room of Bland Funeral Home.

Interment will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 7th, at Saint James Episcopal Church in Warfield.

With tender hearts, we announce that Little Miss Ka-Niya Noel Burford-Adkins, age 6, departed this life unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 10th, in Petersburg. Though her time here was brief, her light and love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and cherished her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Petersburg Chapel of Bland Funeral Home, 137 Harrison Street, Petersburg, VA.
