What a treat! On Monday, January 5, the Marty Van De Car Chef's Challenge was held in the Safe Restaurant at the Odawa Casino. The purpose of the fund raiser was to raise money for scholarships at North Central Michigan College. Three chefs competed, each one serving three courses. One of those chefs was our very own board member Krstin Hasse. For the Amuse-Bouche, she prepared a warm winter brie, for the appetizer Oyster Rockefeller topped with a smoked pork belly, and for the entree Korean short ribs. To die for.

Attendance is essential for a child to be successful in school. That is why Northern Community Mediation offers free mediation services to the schools to address a student's attendance. By bringing school personnel, parents and students together, with the help of the mediator, they can come up with a plan to improve attendance. • A mat (Mkeka), which symbolizes present and ancestral work.
• A unity cup (Kikombe cha Umoja) used to perform a ritual with libations.
• Crops (Mazao), which include favorite fruits and vegetables that are intended to help people celebrate the fruits of their labor.
• A candleholder (Kinara).
• Seven candles (Mishumaa Saba).
• Corn (Muhindi), a symbol of children and the family’s future.
